Derek Chauvin's wife is seeking both of their homes in her divorce petition.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s wife is asking for the couple’s two homes in their divorce and could walk away with them if he doesn’t contest her request.

Veteran family law attorneys said it’s too early to determine whether Chauvin’s wife, Kellie Chauvin, is asking for more than half the couple’s assets because divvying up marital assets is a complicated process.

She filed for divorce two days after her husband was charged with murder and manslaughter in the May 25 killing of George Floyd, who died after then-officer Chauvin planted his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes as Floyd lay prone in the street in handcuffs.

Kellie Chauvin, 45, filed a divorce petition May 31 in Washington County District Court, less than a week after Floyd’s killing. Some have questioned whether her demand for real estate is a ploy to protect the assets from a lawsuit. Family law attorneys say it’s too soon to draw any conclusions.

Don’t kneel on someone’s neck and much trouble will be avoided.
XXXXXX

What if Chauvin was following Minneapolis protocol for Excited Delerium syndrome and was between rock and hard place? If he
did not follow and Floyd died, (or didn’t), he was in trouble. If did follow protocol and Floyd died also in trouble.

Let us all wait for a trial.

If happens.

No wonder cops leaving.

I’m not a lawyer, but the fact that the divorce was initiated so quickly means the couple can legitimately state that they were not subject to any seizure of assets in any court action at the time the divorce papers were filed.

I also wonder if he could lose these assets anyway. If he’s sued by Floyd’s family, his first course of action would be to file a third-party claim against the city to indemnify him against any claim for damages. If he was following police procedures at all times, he’d have a very strong case for this.

On the other hand ... if he has no assets at risk then he may not even bother contesting a civil lawsuit.

It’s possible the cop realized he didn’t have a chance, that the outcome of the trial was completely predictable, that his life is over, and to protect his wife he told her to get a divorce and ask for the property.

There’s something in my dim memory concerning my late mother’s last couple of years of life in which she could’ve gotten some additional financial benefits. But there would’ve been a govt clawback if she was above a certain amount in assets..which she was. We chose not to go that route because it sounded like it had pitfalls. The main thing I remember...it was the Fed govt that would be doing it.

I hope the officer has good legal advice, but it would be the wife getting stung if there was a clawback. He’ll have nothing when this is over anyway.

Do you mean that mass hysteria and political correctness should be ignored and evidence actually considered before finding of guilt. I suspect this case will ultimately conclude like the one with the Baltimore policemen who were also guilty until judged not guilty.

Maybe he is allowing her to have everything so that it can not be taken by St Floyd's family.

It seems too many people all over the world are assuming Chauvin guilty of killing poor Mr. Floyd with out knowing all the facts.

MUST READ: Body Cam Transcript Tells a Different Story on the Death of George Floyd
thegatewaypundit  | 11 July, 2020 | Jim Hoft

The transcript from the body camera worn by J. Alexander Kueng shows clear evidence that George Floyd was suffering respiratory distress before police laid hands on him. He died from a Fentanyl overdose, not from being choked out by Minneapolis police. This news will not bring joy to the crazed, leftist mob screaming to lop off the heads of the Minneapolis police officers who stand accused of "murdering" George Floyd and little attention has been paid to the transcript since its release on July 7. I hope to correct that oversight.

First a note about Officer J. Alexander Kueng. He also is a black man. He was adopted shortly after birth by a white woman and single mother. Can't have that story out there. Simply does not promote the meme that white Americans are inherently and irredeemably racist. How can a racist white woman be a loving mother to a black child? Racists don’t do that.

Once you read the transcript you will understand why the Minnesota Attorney General withheld the video evidence from the public and why the defense attorneys are trying to get the information out - it exonerates the police.

The incident starts with a store manager reporting that George Floyd had just given him a counterfeit bill.

Link to the FULL transcript
https://www.startribune.com/read-the-transcript-of-thomas-lane-s-body-camera-footage/571678791/

You can finish reading the transcript for yourself. But the bottom line is clear - Floyd's respiratory crisis was caused by the Fentanyl he had ingested before the police showed up on the scene. That evidence is quite clear in the autopsy report. Those who have rushed to judgment in condemning the Minneapolis Police Department will have to do some major mea culpas.

“waiting for his own suicide”

I am very curious how he is going to figure a way to kneel on his own neck for ~10 minutes.

Maybe the former jailers of Epstein can help him figure out how to make that happen.

Nice try, but the prosecuters are going to ask if its the MN polic standard MO for cops to put knee holds on people who are in represpitory distress? It should be the Minn city council on trial. They approved these techniques.

Nice try,

Obviously you didn't read the FULL article including the FULL autopsy report.

The "knee on the neck" was also an already approved and taught technique in police training.
