Defunding School Police

Craziness now exits on an industrial scale but among all foolish ideas, none is stupider than trying to defund police departments, particularly where poor people, disproportionately African Americans, depend on policing. Yet, just when it seems that this insanity cannot get worse, it does, and the latest madness concerns extending defunding demands to include school police. The Klan’s Imperial Wizard must be thrilled by a policy that will further undermine the education of African Americans. Do anti-cop crusaders honestly embrace the Rousseauian fantasy that children naturally soak up knowledge if only left on their own?

This defunding effort is not as preposterous as it might initially appear. Milwaukee schools have already terminated their relationships with the city’s police department while Portland. OR schools removed armed police officers from schools. Denver, Co has likewise banned police from its schools, a policy also enacted by Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. The LA school district cut $25 million in policing funds from its budget while in Berkeley the cut was 50%. Declining municipal budgets may encourage yet more reductions especially if justified by “racial justice.”

To understand this crusade, consider an article in Colorlines, a radical black magazine. “Black and Brown Students Are Organizing to Remove Police From Their Schools” outlines the campaign and notes this to be an ongoing quest. To quote:

The objective here is to make sure no kid gets an education. People who lack education are easier to manipulate and control.

The one I know about is Duke Univ students demand a complete demolishing of campus police, not the % cut of police budget etc., because they claimed campus police (?) [I think their goal is general police, not just campus police] was rooted in “slave patrols.” (link)

Lots of others point out just last year and a few years past, these same college hothouse snowflakes were complaining about the wide spread campus rape culture. Whatever fits their NARRATIVE....

Anyway, we can speculate the new demand to abolish on campus police eventually will encompass the whole police department in local municipality, if the students succeeded in their initial demand.

So, let them abolish the campus police for now. And nobody respond to their call for help. They can take care of themselves apparently. Life is full of hard lessons that these snowflakes need to learn.

I never saw a police officer on the grounds of any public school I attended.

New police stations could be built on school grounds.

A while back, I visited the Duke campus and was astounded to see day glo call boxes scattered all over the campus. The call boxes were placed so near instant calls could be made to the campus police to report rape or attempted rape.

It looked like over kill to me.

School principals could buy a few dozen donuts each school day for hungry officers.

The only way to improve education in this country is a widespread voucher system. Choice and competition would improve quality and safety.

The left never wanted police in schools even though insane crazies went into the schools and killed kids. The reason is that the left wants another mass shooting in a school as their excuse to take guns from non-violent citizens. Schools have been closed, and the left is frustrated that no one has been able to open fire in a school, and they cannot reach their goal of seizing guns from NRA members.

Young ladies on campus should know young men can easily be sexually aroused.

Getting drunk often precedes getting laid, so stay sober if virtue maintenance matters.

One good thing about this virus is that there hasn’t been any mass shootings. Although give it time. Masses of people will be shooting each other the way things are going.

“vouchers”

Poor people tend to make poor choices.

Students simply need to work to succeed.

Millions of successful Jewish and black people graduated from large urban public school systems.

What is the first thing liberal government officials have always threatened to cut when the uppity populace tries to pass some sort of tax cut, or prevent yet another tax increase.

Police and Fire Departments.

They inherently know that funding of these departments are the most basic function of government, and the ones the public understands can have the most direct impact on their lives.

Why then do they think “Defund the Police” is an idea that will win them elections?

Just more proof that they have been completely co opted by the radical Marxist mob.

This kind or rhetoric political suicide with the general population.

That funeral shootout in Chicago was across the street from a day care

Betcha Bloombergs “moms” count that as a mass school shooting

I agree with that, but would add that a voucher program of the right sort could break the strangle hold the teachers unions have on the education system.

That is a big part of the problem.

In SW DC there is a sign that tells of the books a black teenager was expected to read in a DC high school in the mid-1960s.

That reading requirement probably surpasses the majority of private schools nowadays.

Rochester NY....All kinds of problems in the High Schools. They put in Officers.

Wonder which school will have the first stabbing.

Mayor Lovely Warren is finding out that no one is listening to her.

It was a great city when I was a kid.

A very large percentage of DC students normally attend charter schools.
