Trump-Era Primaries In Kansas, Tennessee Trigger GOP Family Feuds Over Who Would Deliver More For President

Republicans aren’t airing that ad. It’s one of four placed by Sunflower State PAC, created by Democrats to help Kobach, Kansas’s former secretary of state and one of his party’s most divisive figures, power through Tuesday’s GOP primary against two-term Rep. Roger Marshall.

Democrats consider Kobach the easier candidate to beat, but the primary unfolding across the state looks like Trump-era primaries everywhere: a Republican family feud over who would deliver more for the president.

“I meet with the president whenever I’m in D.C.,” Kobach told a room full of Republicans in this small city on July 26, near the end of one of the “Constitution 101” town halls he mixes with traditional campaign events. “I talk to him on the phone all the time. I’ve been advising him on immigration policy since 2016.”

But two years ago, Kobach ran for governor and lost to Democrat Laura Kelly, a striking result in this conservative state. Images from that campaign still appear in his TV ads, suggesting the blessing of a president who has not weighed in on the race. Without an official intervention, national Republicans have created a PAC of their own to stop Kobach, often recycling attacks — as the candidate never fails to note — that originated with liberal magazines or think tanks. The upshot, every time, is that there is only one candidate in the race who has fumbled away an election.

Kansas is one of two states with GOP Senate primaries this week that have a back-to-the-future outlook, with Tennessee voters similarly choosing between an establishment-backed candidate and an insurgent conservative trying to lay claim to the true ideological mantle.

In 2014, in Kansas and Tennessee, the Establishment was shocked by the vote totals against two incumbent senators.

Six years later, both Alexander and Roberts are retiring (they're aging and would likely have lost primary races this time - see Bob Corker).

The Establishment, to nobody's surprise, has gotten behind Kasich/Romney types in both states.

We'll see what the people say tomorrow.

A Kobach win tomorrow does not guarantee a Bollier win in November. But it does give her the better chance of winning. The only worse possible selection would probably be that clown Hamilton.

Trump's refusal to endorse a solid nationalist like Kobach speaks volumes in the Kansas race. That's because he never likes to endorse losers.

I like Kobach for his politics, but he blew his opportunity in 2018. There's no reason to trot out a loser a second time in a key race.

Alabama voters learned that lesson this year. Roy Moore probably didn't even win the support of his own family in that primary after his 2017 fiasco.

This is how low the Democrats go to violate your Second Amendment rights.

Newt Gingrich: Dems’ attempt to flip Senate could be determined by this Republican primary Tuesday
Fox News
Newt Gingrich
August 1, 2020
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/dems-attempt-to-flip-senate-newt-gingrich
“The Democrats have invented Sunflower State PAC, which has already spent $2.5 million propping up Kobach and attacking Congressman Roger Marshall, R-Kan. The PAC will spend another $2.2 million against Marshall before the primary Tuesday.

As James Arkin reported in Politico on July 15: “Sunflower State has apparent ties to Democrats. The media buyer used to place the ad, Old Town Media, was also used to place more than $11 million in ads from Unite the Country, the pro-Joe Biden super PAC that spent heavily in the Democratic presidential primary. Sunflower State also holds its account at Amalgamated Bank, which is used by Senate Majority PAC,...”

See Marshall’s positions for yourself. Looks like a straight conservative, especially on our Second Amendment.

Give the Democrats control of the Senate, and it will be all over, folks. Don’t let that happen.

Don’t count on it. Whenever and wherever the media all get behind a story like this lie that Democrats are sending money and lots of ad buys propping up Kobach because they secretly want the weaker candidate (hint: it’s Kobach) to go up against. Barbara Bollier that’s certainly untrue, big time!

The only time the “big three” snuz rags in KS turn out the same story, it’s like, if it’s Ks and July, it must be hot and this story could have been written by The NY Times liars!

Kobach is their worst nightmare and is the LAST man Mitch and the boys want anywhere near the US Senate, especially when Trump is in office! The dems don’t want him there but not nearly enough as much as Mitch and the open and free borders crowd, the anti-DACA bunch and most of all Koch Bros Cheap Labor Express!

Most of all the US Chambers of Commerce want him gone and they’re hoping against all hope to finally put the nail in Kobach’s coffin! The

It's completely true. It worked for the Democrats in 2018 and they're hoping it works in this election as well. Koback lost the six largest counties in Kansas by an average of 20 points in 2018. No reason to believe he'll do better this time around.

No reason to believe he'll do better this time around.

Static analysis.

You're assuming the same mindset from the voters as in 2018, that the past four years has changed no world views. Short of a Roy Moore type candidate I suspect an R behind their name is an automatic vote.

What Roy Moore is to Alabama, Kris Kobach is to Kansas. In the 2018 governors race, Kobach lost the six most populous counties by an average of 20 points. He was in a three way race against two Democrats and still lost statewide by 5 points. Regardless of who wins the nomination, Bollier is going to be a tough opponent. She's well funded, ran unopposed so she's had the past couple of months to define herself, and is no fool. If Marshall is the nominee then it's a neck-and-neck race. If it's Kobach then Bollier will be the favorite.
