Trump claims coronavirus vaccine might be delivered soon: 'You could have a very big surprise coming up'
Fox News ^ | September 7, 2020 | Brooke Singman

Posted on 09/07/2020 12:50:16 PM PDT by familyop

The president went on to claim that the vaccine could become available “during the month of October.”...He added: “The vaccine will be very safe and very effective.” Trump slammed Democrats, saying they should “apologize for the reckless anti-vaccine rhetoric,” which he said “undermines science and what’s happening.” “It’s a fake rhetoric and a political rhetoric,” he added.

Cue the long line of antivaxxers who will now show up and spew false talking points to to make themselves feel better about not getting a vaccine so we can’t get back to normal.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer but I'm not about to take a vaccine that has been rammed through to meet a political deadline. I'll wait a bit for the the well-tested version.

ESPECIALLY the Dims won’t take the vaccine!!!!

A successful vaccination program would end the Democrat/communist reign of terror—at least the part with masks, lockdowns, social distancing, and other related restrictions.

Ending the violent communist revolutions in our cities, and preventing the Dims from stealing the election with their vile “mail-in” strategy is another matter!!!!

That’s not true. The vaccines are not being rammed through (except for Russia). As stated on this thread, the vaccines have to go through the proper clinical phases 1, 2 and 3 trials that use double blind studies on tens of thousands of people. After that the FDA along with others have to give the vaccines approval. Also what is speeding things up is the government is also manufacturing the vaccines at the same time scientists are performing the studies.

“Well, if you get the vaccine and are protected from The Virus, why the hell would you care if anyone else was vaccinated or not?”

You don’t know?

Like you I have little reason to get a vaccine whose trial phases were cut from the normal average of 5 years to 3 months.

Last case of flu - 38 years ago.
Last case of a cold - 48 years ago.

Population of the county I live in - 356,899
Percentage of pop. Covid+ - 5.7%
Percentage of population dead from Covid-19 - 0.0124%

County survival rate (not counting unknown cases) - 97.8%

In addition to that I live 35 and 45 miles, respectively, from the two modestly sized cities in my county which I rarely visited even before Covid Hysteria. Even if this vaccine had gone through the normal process I would have zero reason to take it.

The Lancet - aren't they the ones that had their reports debunked on HCQ?

Government and Medicine have failed to explain why a rushed vaccine is needed for an illness with an over 98% recovery rate.

The response to this illness has caused so much more damage and loss than the illness itself.

Make up your own mind. And boost your immune system.

That is confusing, to me.

How can a safe vaccine be manufactured before studies are complete?

Are the vaccines themselves so cheap to manufacture that they can be dumped in the event studies show side effects/other issues?

Can anyone please explain why this vaccine was produced so quickly, when there is no effective treatments for RSV or AIDS?
I plan to take the vaccine because I have a high risk family member. I am just wondering how the scientists were able to create a vaccine so quickly. Was there similarities with other viruses ( that had vaccines manufactured) that made it easier for them to create this one?

This is the NY Times but it goes into extensive detail about how vaccines are created and how the process has to be accelerated in order to cut the time frame down.

The vaccine was not produced all that quickly as it was not de novo research. If you recall, there was extensive research around SARS and MERS which are both coronavirus, however those pandemics burned out so quickly no further vaccination was required. A lot of the work was done and was just retooled to this specific virus (Corona - 19). So to say it started at the very beginning is not true

This virus does not mutate as rapidly as HIV so a vaccine is possible, HIV is far more tricky to pin down. So yes, there was a ton of work already done on this particularly genus, and it is being tweaked for the specie.

I wrote elsewhere, that this is less about anti-vaxxers and more about risk/reward. And frankly, the trade-off in this COVID19 vaccine choice isn't all that great, IMHO.

The success of a vaccine in heling the patient AND the herd depends up the Vaccine Effectiveness (VE) and mutation likelihood. Regarding the VE for the COVID19 vaccine, we are just guessing. It should be greater than 50% per CDC, the head of Warp Speed "wouldn't be surprised" if it was around 90%, and Fauci would "settle" for it being between 70% and 75%. That's comforting.

For comparison, the VE for the 3 doses of the polio vaccine is around 99%, up from 70%-95% in the Francis Field Trial. However, the Cutter incident is a reminder that operational risk is real and cannot be wished away. Also, the polio vaccine's VE reflects over 60+ years of refinement and polio hasn't mutated until recently.

In contrast, the annual VE for influenza (which mutates) ranged from 60% to 19% over the past decade. So while vaccines on (relatively) non-mutating viruses like polio can have high VEs at inception, they carry operational risks that give people pause. The science on mutating Coronaviruses like influenza reveal a VE below coin-toss proportions (actually the influenza average VE was 43.8% over the last decade). Small wonder large proportions of people don't want the vaccine (though I'm not a big polls=truth guy). <>Finally, and not insignificantly, the estimated Case Fatality Rate (CFR) for COVID19 is 0.4%. That's not quite as low as the 0.1% CFR for influenza, but it's not smallpox or Ebola..or other things:

Lifetime odds of death for selected causes, United States, 2018
Cause of Death Odds of Dying
Heart disease 1 in 6
Cancer 1 in 7
All preventable causes of death 1 in 25
Chronic lower respiratory disease 1 in 26
Suicide 1 in 86
Opioid overdose 1 in 98
Motor-vehicle crash 1 in 106
Fall 1 in 111
Gun assault 1 in 298
Pedestrian incident 1 in 541
Motorcyclist 1 in 890
Drowning 1 in 1,121
Fire or smoke 1 in 1,399
Choking on food 1 in 2,618
Bicyclist 1 in 4,060
Sunstroke 1 in 7,770
Accidental gun discharge 1 in 9,077
Electrocution, radiation, extreme temperatures, and pressure 1 in 12,484
Sharp objects 1 in 29,483
Hot surfaces and substances 1 in 45,186
Hornet, wasp, and bee stings 1 in 53,989
Cataclysmic storm 1 in 54,699
Dog attack 1 in 118,776
Lightning 1 in 180,746
Railway passenger Too few deaths in 2018 to calculate odds
Passenger on an airplane Too few deaths in 2018 to calculate odds

In conclusion, folks who don't wish to take a vaccine a few days after it's been approved and where the operational kinks may not have been worked out, that might work some of the time on a virus that kills an estimated 0.4% of people afflicted with symptoms (wherein 94% of those killed have at least one comorbidity), aren't anti-vaxxers...they're actually pretty rational creatures.

LMAO. Have you ever considered Anger Management? You have serious anger issues.

Ad Hominem attacks? Can you say “projection”?

All I did was call you a Karen, yet you reciprocate by calling me “an ignorant jackass” not once, but twice.

You also twice called me an “idiot”. Now, who is engaging in Ad Hominem attacks?

No! The scientific name for the “Flu” is “Influenza”? I had no idea!! (In case you can’t figure it out, that was extreme sarcasm.)

Thank god you aren’t my doctor. You need to grow up and cease resorting to childish name calling and angry tirades whenever someone disagrees with you. It’s really not a good look.

Just a few months ago, you were one of the most rational posters on FR, regarding the virus. I don’t know what happened to you, but I don’t care. I merely laughed and shrugged off your name calling and insults.

Get help and have a good life. I cannot converse with someone so irrational.

Take your armchair psycho table and peddle it elsewhere. I am happy that you are not my patient as you are the type that insists on every treatment according to your limited knowledge and does not bother to listen to or understand the expertise of others. However, if you were in my ICU you would get the same world class care every other my patients gets and your chances of survival would be higher than in other locations. My partners and I have an excellent track record with this disease.

You are the one who started with Karen and all of its implications...I will make you a deal — you stop lying about me and I will stop telling the truth about you.
