Several Super Bowl Advertisers Bow Out over Fear of Offending Viewers
Breitbart ^ | 24 Jan 2021 | Warner Todd Huston

A growing number of big-name advertisers, including Coke and Hyundai, are skipping the Super Bowl this year for fear of not striking the right tone amid America’s contentious political landscape.

Several companies have decided not to buy Super Bowl time, some for the first time in over a decade.

The reason? According to the New York Post, the talk from insiders is that members of multiple boardrooms are finally coming to realize that they’re going to infuriate half the country no matter what they do.

In recent years, advertisers were thrilled to push the Black Lives Matter and Antifa ideologies or to push transgenderism and the #MeToo movement. But this year, not so much.

“Every client conversation I’ve had these days is about who is going to be offended by this ad,” Rob Schwartz, chief executive officer of ad agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, told the Post. “There’s a lot of discussion about risk mitigation. What that tends to do is that it makes things very bland and not effective, or it forces you to look at universal topics like hope or humor.

“The country is so divided and split right down the middle that I don’t think that there’s a commercial that will appease both sides,” added Bill Oberlander, co-founder and executive creative of ad agency Oberlander.

The result has been that the Super Bowl will not sell out of its ad spots this year, the paper reported. And some of the companies opting out have been with the NFL’s biggest game for over a decade.

Coca-Cola is out this year, the report said. So is Hyundai, Olay, Avocados From Mexico, Little Caesars, and Ford Motors. Most of these companies have had a Super Bowl ad every year since 2010.

My husband stopped buying gilette and we have 3 teen/young adult men who we have also trained to avoid gilette when they started shaving. The boycott is now generational 😀

leftists! Their entire mindset(if you can call it that) revolves around hate. They hate everyone that does not agree with them and do as they expect. Frankly, I think the whole bunch of them are nuts.

Nevertheless I still won’t be watching. Don’t even know or care who will be playing.

But it is interesting that some companies are actually worried about the viewers’ thoughts. A first.

People are too easily offended. Now that so few people are going, maybe I can scalp a couple of tickets and then get reservations to a good restaurant. Oh, wait, the restaurants are all closed. Hope I don't get stuck sitting with....Newman!

The problem is that the writers are all young “liberals” and they think that everyone buys in the message that they’re trying to sell which ends up alienating half of the country. Their CEOs probably realizes that.

In a few more months they will have closed the credit card accounts and drained the bank accounts of the Trump deplorables so they won't have any money to spend anyway.

Well, that is the legit FZ album, issued by Barking Pumpkin with the Synclavier "Porn Wars" track and clips from the PMRC hearing. I love that album.

The other is a boot, but the design and syntax on the back is perfectly synched with the legit album.

These big companies are wasting their money on bad advertising agencies.

The 80s and the 90s seemed to be the "Golden Age in Advertising".

I have a standard reaction to most commercials anymore. Engage the mute button, and avert my eyes from the TV. I don’t want to hear what they are saying, and I don’t want to watch who is saying it.

They could just bring back a team of Clydesdale horses pulling a wagon

The animal rights activists have been surprisingly quiet recently--but presumably they would complain about "animal slavery"...

Tom Brady who ditched the Pats and now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The talent available to Tampa Bay is far more than he’s had for years. Pair a perpetual bottom-dweller with at least basically competent drafting, with a solid QB, and that’s a team that can go far.

Someone on one of the fan pages did a spreadsheet showing comparative draft value available for the teams, and for 2015-2019, Tampa Bay had the equivalent of an extra 13 1st rounders, or expressed in 2nd round picks, 30 second rounders. The system is designed to boost teams which have done poorly, and TB is one that did poorly for a long time - so they have a LOT of talent.

If you want to know what the nfl will do next to try and fix the disaster they’ve wrought upon themselves. I can explain it, it won’t work and will become a disaster, but I can explain it. The nfl will create a new position on each team. The “extra-point kicker”. The regular kicker, the one that does kick-offs and field goals will be barred from kicking extra-points. Each “extra-point” kicker on each team will be mandated to be filled by a female. Their thinking will be that this will fix their disastrous ratings by bringing in a rush of female viewers. Instead, what they will unwittingly wade right into is the whole transgender nonsense. The general public will be even more revolted than they are right now.

Interesting idea. Require the extra point kicker to be female, then populate these positions with dudes who claim to be females! The mandate would turn into a womandate... or something.

The advertisers will mostly be the hi-tech leftists who don’t care - Apple, Intel, Google, Amazon and a bunch of crappy Netflix shows nobody will watch.
