France recalls its ambassadors to the US and Australia over new national security partnership

(CNN)The French government has immediately recalled its ambassador to the US for consultation in response to the recently announced national security partnership with the United Kingdom and Australia.

Philippe Étienne, the French ambassador to the US, confirmed the news when reached for comment. In a statement, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, said Friday that the move was made at the request of President Emmanuel Macron. "This extraordinary decision reflects the exceptional seriousness of the announcements made on September 15 by Australia and the United States," Le Drian said. "The abandonment of the ocean-class submarine project that Australia and France had been working on since 2016 and the announcement of a new partnership with the United States aimed at studying the possibility of future cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines constitute unacceptable behavior among allies and partners; their consequences affect the very concept we have of our alliances, our partnerships, and the importance of the Indo-Pacific for Europe."

I understand France chagrin. They bad a deal with Australia.

France has nuclear submarines, but the deal with Australia was for diesel powered submarines. They cost less but operationally they are not as quiet as nuclear submarines and they cannot continue to sail for as as many miles at one time as a nuclear sub can.

The U.S. deal will help supply Australia with nuclear subs. Long term it’s a better deal than France’s nuclear subs.

However, when and how the deal was worked out their obviously was not enough diplomacy given to U.S.-French and U.S.-NATO relations BEFORE the deal was announced.

Could not France have been “cut in” on the nuclear sub deal, in as much as the goal is international security in the waters of Asia more than what serves one nation alone. Or, if not that, with the right diplomacy could not France have been offered some equal military hardware supply deal within NATO?

I don’t think the deal between the U.S., U.K. and Australia is bad or wrong. But I do think the Biden administration rushed it just to say they had it, without diplomacy that could have found a way to get France on board with it.

The Biden administration seems to rush pell mell in a number of foreign policy areas. Maybe even they think their time is short.

The French… Go figure… I love the old days of FR regarding mocking the French… Looks like they are in need of another dose… Like him or not this policy of working more closely with the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, etc. in our region here to ally and strategically thwart the aggressive and encroaching red Chinese is the larger game—don’t take your eye off that ball—and just ignore the stupid French, it is exactly what the doctor has ordered and more power to the President or anybody else who can get it right and encircle the Chicoms.

Are French munitions any good?

The Char B1 bis was superior to anything the Germans had at the beginning of World War 2. And the Marder I was a German gun stuck on a French vehicle.

The problem with the post-Napoleonic French military has never been the hardware.

Britain’s Parliament condemns him, France recalls their ambassadors. Canada suing over the oil pipeline cancellation.
At least half the people in America are against the democrats forced vaccination.

The only countries he has made happy are China and Afghanistan and all the south of the border ones sending their poorest people north. Plus here in the USA the democrat party thugs love the democrat party as they can burn down business’s and loot others and maim and kill with impunity.

The Frogs did defeat the Greenpeace navy pretty handily a few years ago.

Certainly better performance than the Nips have turned in against the Sea Shepherd folks.

Somehow, it will be Trump’s fault.

Which is more upsetting for France?
Withdrawal from the Paris Accords
Withdrawal from the Aussie Sub Deal

they’re pissed they got screwed out of a $$ multi-billion submarine order they thought was in the bag.

I have it on good authority that when Spain was about to close a deal with the USA on a weapon system the French government reached out and said "remeber those Basque seperatist terrorists that are your number one national priority to find? And how you ask us all the time if any of them are in France and we always said no? Well we might be able to find them here after all .... if you bought our system."

Despicable "ally"

"Joe - everything he touches turns to crap."

"There you go... That slump could screw up a one car funeral..

We make a lot of fun of France, but many times it's France that's first to say hell no, that ain't going to happen..

I don't know any Frenchmen, but I do know Obiden, and the Ozzie's have been real stiffs here of late.. So, maybe the French are justified in their outrage... (?)

Oh, GREAT

Another feather in that idiotic pedophile’s hat.

Our relationship with France is, in some ways, greater than with England, and he just destroyed it??????

How many ways do I hate this Joe? Let me count them.

> They bad a deal with Australia.

I’ve heard that the Australians claim there were contractual “gates”, with associated reviews. They conducted a review and decided not to proceed and took the exit gate.

The White House has been accused of omitting French president Emmanuel Macron’s scathing remarks from an official press communication on US president Joe Biden’s handling of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/macron-biden-afghanistan-call-transcript-b1907078.html

According to the readout, Macron described the mission to evacuate allies as a “moral responsibility” and told Biden: “We cannot abandon them.”

The Élysée said Macron “underlined the absolute need to ensure rapid and concrete coordination among allies on the ground to continue the evacuations”.

The White House version, however, made no mention of a “moral responsibility” to evacuate Afghan allies.
