Two-term Republican West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has filed his candidacy for the Senate in 2024, when former Democratic governor and current Sen. Joe Manchin is up for re-election.

Justice filed the paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission Thursday, hours ahead of his campaign launch event scheduled to take place at the historic Greenbriar Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Justice, a billionaire businessman and coal mining magnate, owns the luxury resort.

Manchin, a moderate Democrat who is often at loggerheads with his party’s progressive wing and at times with the party’s Senate leadership and the White House, has yet to announce whether he will see another six-year term in the Senate in 2024.

KEYWORDS: elections
McConnell doesn't like Alex Mooney for Senate because Mooney took out moderate J6-committee-voting McKinley last year.

Jim Justice will be 73, Mooney 53.

Jim Justice is a former Democrat, Manchin is a current Democrat, so either way, McConnell would prefer a Democrat to an ACTUAL Republican.

Both Justice and Mooney had the support of President Trump for their respective offices.

Justice is a native of West Virginia while Mooney is from Maryland and served in the Maryland legislature for a period.

Great news. Justice is very popular in WV. Manchin is in for the political fight of his life. Hope he decides to retire but I doubt it.

Justice may be a former Democrat, but that is where the similarity between him and Manchin ends.

We will be so fortunate if Justice can take Manchin to the woodshed.

And I’m betting he will.

Mooney is 53. He has time to run later. I heard that excuse somewhere. We need to win the seat! Period. So sick of running wackadoodles that could never win. Pennsylvania governor just to name one out of probably 20 easy seats we lost. I’m sick of losing easy elections. 2023 has been dismal thus far. Jacksonville mayor is our next opportunity to keep a seat red. We better.

I live in Jacksonville and you’re so right about the Mayor’s race, Donna Deegan the Democrat is not only crazy, if you’ve lived in Jacksonville for 20 years or so then you know that she is a person that lacks any personal integrity and is a cheater that lost her kids in a divorce

Jim Justice pushed COVID vax shots as Governor. Not my preferred candidate.

forward any needed change by 4/29 -19:00 ?

Hopefully, West Virginians will have better sense in electing their senator than their PA neighbors, who elected a brain impaired Marxist AKA a democrat.

Pennsylvania governor just to name one out of probably >>> Mastriano was a good candidate but ran a terrible general campaign. He ran from everything. debate, media, no show at the Mark Houck event. Best think he beat the crap out of the commie Corman. Then you remember all the commie republicans backed shapiro. Jeff Bartos (ran for senate) wife set up a rebulicans for shapiro fund raiser.
