Californians were forced to climb trees to escape dangerous floodwaters and mudslides sweeping through the state on Sunday.

A flash flood hit Seven Oaks in the San Bernardino Mountains bringing down the Santa Ana bridge and leaving residents sheltering in the trees.

LA and the surrounding area has been battered by Tropical Storm Hilary's record rain levels and strong winds that have brought down trees and power lines and flooded roads.

School closures across the city and Palm Springs have been announced for Monday as the storm raged on.

The National Weather Service continued to warn of life-threatening flooding from heavy rain in western LA County and eastern Ventura County on Sunday night.

California is enduring devastating floods and dangerously strong winds, as well as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Ventura County which hit on Sunday afternoon.

As Hilary continues to wreak havoc across the state:

I noticed that crap too. I guess we can expect going forward linking earthquake warnings to hurricanes. I am beginning to wonder if they haven’t been manipulating the weather and all the ridiculous fear mongering is to draw you away from what they did is causing

Your average Nor’easter on the Atlantic coast is far more severe than Hilary.

Forced to climb trees?
As opposed to getting in their car and driving East?
They’ve only known about this storm coming for 7 days, how stupid are these people? Nevermind, California democrats.

It was actually a steady light rain for most areas. However the news media spent the entire time showing videos of category 3-5 hurricanes that happened in Florida and elsewhere.

They also said repeatedly that this was the first tropical storm ever for California (There have been 4 of them).

Punter is Brit slang. In this case it probably just means customers.

Remember, FRiends, except for fairly
Common thunderstorms in the mountains, it hasn’t rained a drop here since May. No, here in Placer County in the foothills of the Sierra, I’m not in a tree. Unfortunately, most of the fun is east of here, over the mountains and across
Nevada. It’s just sprinkling at this hour

Punter is a British term for a gambler, usually used to refer to someone who is betting on a horse race or other sporting event. I don’t know why the Daily Mail used the word to refer to bar patrons in this article, other than typical Daily Mail careless writing.

"Yes, is it just me, or is this California hurricane getting more attention then the typical hurricane that strikes the east coast?"

Probably because it is the FIRST hurricane to ever hit the west coast... they have no basis for comparison. Being from South Louisiana, and having ridden out many hurricanes, I have an accurate idea of what a hurricane really is.

I think it can have multiple meanings, depending on the context.

I wish we could get some of that rain. Fires all around us in Southern Oregon. Smoke so thick, hot and windy. Gives me the heeby jeebies! After a lifelong perfect driving record, I wrecked my car a few days ago. I’m not going anywhere!

Perhaps. I’ve only seen it used in the context of betting, as far as I recall.

Stick 40 million people onto a strip of coastal land -- literally on the fault line to boot -- and have most of the entertainment industry relocate there, and coverage with "climate change" spin is unavoidable. ;^)

The geography of Southern California was a blessing to some. The mountain ranges channeled the storm protecting some areas.

From the article:
Cardi B says tropical storm Hilary ‘woke’ her from her sleep.

THIS IS HORRIFIC!

(I have no idea who Cardi B is. Sounds like a diet plan)
