DOJ threatens to sue Texas if border law is enforced
The Hill ^ | 12/28/2023 | MIRANDA NAZZARO

The Department of Justice (DOJ) warned Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) it will sue Texas if he enforces a new state law that allows for the prosecution and deportation of migrants entering the U.S. from Mexico, according to a letter obtained by The Hill.

Abbott signed the legislation earlier this month, citing the increased number of migrant encounters at the U.S. southern border.

The law, set to take effect March 5, allows any Texas law enforcement officer to arrest those suspected of illegal entry into the country. Once arrested, migrants must either agree to a judge’s order to leave the U.S. or face misdemeanor charges of illegal entry.

The devil is in the details here - the law does not say anything about forced deportation. If convicted, the illegal has a choice; they can either serve a state jail sentence or voluntarily agree with a judge’s order to leave Texas. Texas is not involuntarily deporting anyone and therefore not going anywhere near Federal immigration law.

DOJ go to hell you worthless amalgam of unneeded bureaucracy. You’ll all pay the price with the return of Trump and MAGA.

The federal position is that if THEY don’t enforce a law, then no one else is allowed to either.

Texas built some floating barriers and a federal judge ruled we had to remove them.

IMO, the DOJ should be considered an undesignated rogue ‘state’ in itself and therefore disputes between it and any state should be the purview of the USSC.

The Fed position is that citizens have to sit back quietly while they allow this invasion of our country. Treason…. Pretty much clear and in the face of all US citizens.

DC is pretty much enemy territory.

And then another Federal judge stayed the first judge’s order.

Why would autocorrect catch that? Succession is a word. Just the wrong word in this instance. Autocorrect doesn’t catch those kinds of errors. But your snark is duly noted.

If there is no action to stop the invasion, the constitution clearly views states acting on their own.

I remember the days when now Governor Abbott was the Texas AG, He prevailed against DC in almost every case he presented. He is a good attorney.

And he has been too mild for some as Governor, but Texas is a success story under his administration. Just look around.

Now, Austin?

What a mess, the Austin city government may as well be San Francisco.

This is the hill to die on. If Texas crumples on this, it’s worse than if they never enacted the law to begin with.

If Texans can’t fix Austin; why do so many think DC can be?

Maybe, but the D stands for Destroyers. Destroyers Of Justice.

Texas can fix what ails it.

But it will have to secure its elections first.

“What does TX do if, in private, Deep State threatens to yank federal money going to TX?”

Well, if the deep state yanks federal money going to Texas, then there is no real need for people who work in Texas to send their tax dollars to Washington. Companies in Texas should just tell the fed to piss up a rope and just send SS money to the fed.

I think that would be a real good first step in Texas seceding from the Union. Texas can set up their own Social Security fund as well.
