If so, how is it Boeings fault?

Airbus already pretty much has done that. Boeing did this to itself through crap management and bowing at the ESG throne.
BA was $260/share at the start of the year and now is down to $200. You do not let that happen and keep your job at the C level of public companies. A few big investors pull out and heads will roll, but major change in culture is needed to restore Boeing to what it was.

Accountants and MBA’s aren’t the source of DEI. DEI seeps in through HR departments and legal.

Elon has talked about building planes. he says what he has learned from building cars spaceships and starlink would make his planes world-beaters.
However, he doesn’t have the time. He just has too much on his plate.
Its a deep question as to whether he can hire the staff to run his companies without his direct supervision. It didn’t appear to be the case 4-6 years ago when he made the comment

I believe the above statement is a huuuuge part of the present issues.
One other contributing factor is Boeing’s bottom line. NASA used to issue Cost Plus contracts. If Boeing bid $2 billion and received a Cost Plus contract, they could just keep on billing for any cost overruns. NASA no longer issues Cost Plus contracts. Boeing is building a space capsule for NASA, but no ability to just keep billing and receiving $$$. They actually repeated the insanity that caused the Apollo 1 fire. After basically finishing the capsule, the ‘discovered’ some of the wiring material was flammable.

Another example of the insanity of Cost Plus contracts. The James Webb space telescope is wonderful. That said, the spending increased from $2 billion to $10 billion. NASA’s planetary exploration budget is now greatly diminished.
