Garvey races ahead of Schiff as more votes counted in Senate primary, signaling trouble for Democrat
Washington Examiner ^ | March 13, 2024 | Brady Knox

Former MLB star Steve Garvey has won more votes than Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) in the California Senate primary.

California has a unique Senate election process where it holds one primary for both parties, and the top two candidates head into the general in November. Garvey and Schiff have already won more votes than their challengers and advanced, but with votes still coming in more than a week after the Super Tuesday contest, Garvey has surpassed Schiff in the total number he has gathered.

In a surprise Wednesday, Garvey is leading Schiff by about 250,000 votes, with 89% of the votes tallied, the Associated Press reported. While the total number of votes no longer matters regarding dictating the general election, it signals a closer race than many thought Schiff would be facing against his Republican foe.

“As California’s votes are counted, it’s clear that our message of unity, common sense, and compassion resonates across the state,” Garvey campaign spokesman Matt Shupe told the Washington Examiner. “I am deeply honored by the trust and support shown in these preliminary results. Our campaign is about bringing together Californians from all walks of life to address our shared challenges. I will continue to listen, learn, and lead with compassion and work to build consensus on the real issues that matter to our communities.”

“I’m energized by our campaign’s momentum and ready for the challenge ahead,” he added. “I look forward to a spirited campaign on the critical issues facing us.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Schiff for comment.

The two candidates will now face each other in the general election in November to fill the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat. Schiff has been expected to win in the deep blue state.

Waiting until the “missing 2,000,000 votes” are found for Schitt... </sigh>...

Doesn’t matter. Schaffer will win easily in November.

The fact we are nearly 2 weeks removed from the election and the vote is still being counted tells me California can make anyone within 10% of the lead the winner.

Prediction: Schiff wins No matter how many more votes the opposition gets than Schiff. The votes that count are the ones that eventually get Schiff over the top, regardless of how many weeks or months it take for him to get those ‘late votes’ in. Besides, it’s California and democrats are not going to let a senate seat get away from them. And, Schiff is their kind of guy, a radical anti-Trumper and a radical anti-republican.

No need for that. It doesn't matter who leads. Both will make it into November.

It that election, all the Lee and Porter votes will move to Schiff, and he'll win by double digits. Even without cheating.

No, I think they call it a jungle primary where the two top vote getters move on to the general. Usually it is two democrats, the only leverage Republicans have is keeping the Democrats from getting their choice candidate. There is probably nothing to get excited about, Katy Porter’s voters will most assuredly vote for Schiff in November.

That will happen in November 2024. Right now, CA is just practicing slow rolling the vote count so it will be perfected when it is needed in Nov.

I hate to say it, but you’re probably right. Trump’s surprising win in 2016 taught the Democrats something important: Don’t take any chances. Cheat early and often.

And why shouldn’t they? The mainstream media won’t report on it. And the GOP elite are too busy schmoozing with their donors to care.

Garvey, like most Republicans, CAN WIN, but only if they choose to. A few examples would be ads that start with the following:

1. This is San Francisco...
2. This is Los Angeles...
3. This is our Southern Border
4. This was Laken Riley

It’s up to him.

The Democrats will have to spend some of their national Senate election fund to make sure the celebrity candidate doesn’t develop buzz. And Garvey is so much better looking than Schiff which appeals to a certain kind of voter.

The dems control everything in California so there is virtually no chance a dem won’t retain the Senate seat. There will be enough illegals, dead, and fictitious people voting to push the dem to victory.

Schiff will pick up a lot of votes that went to the Dem challenger though.
