Fox News is amplifying a racist conspiracy on the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Because of course it is.
At about 1:40 a.m. EST on Tuesday, a 1,000-foot cargo ship careened past large concrete obstacles ahead of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, colliding with one of its structural pillars and toppling it into the Patapsco River. Mere hours later, conservatives were already hurling their racist conspiracy theories against the wall to see what sticks.
In an early morning broadcast, Fox Business attempted to tie the horrific situation—which was deemed a developing mass casualty event by the Baltimore City Fire Department—to the “wide-open border.” Via a clumsily worded, cross-wired question, Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo connected the catastrophic collapse to President Joe Biden’s immigration policy.

I just don’t understand the hard right turn during the power issues. Is the current that strong there to make that big of a ship turn that abruptly? The water looks calm in the video. So wind wasn’t likely an issue.
“The River Pilot is at the helm at that point. “
And if the power has completely gone, all the piloting skill in the world wouldn’t have helped.
The article doesn’t really go into much detail about this supposed conspiracy theory.

Agreed; but apparently they weren’t making it up out of whole cloth.
“Fog of war” so to speak.
Funny. I wrote some time ago about Senator Joseph McCarthy and his exploration of the reasons China was handed over to the Communists after WWII, and he opined in his controversial book America's Retreat From Victory" that ignorance and stupidity could not explain all the deleterious actions.
He argued that if ignorance or stupidity had been involved, at least some of the actions taken would have benefited America and the world...and none did.
This would take the form of a rule applicable to our current situation with the Left: Never attribute Laziness or Stupidity to the Left when malice can be considered."
Heh, that FReeper suggested we call it "Nolnah's Razor"
I believe I remember that “Nolnah’s razor” comment.
You sure are digging for a zillion ways to excuse the crew of that container ship.
Maybe this analysis will offer some possible answers.

Interestingly the Ukrainians record no longer appears

Either Baltic Shipping removed it, or the Ukrainian edited or deleted his account. I imagine people had already alerted him that Twitter twits were accusing him of crashing a ship that he wasn’t on.
So much sense! Don’t make a habit of it. People will talk.
Reports are that they quickly made a mayday call that alerted personnel at the bridge in time to prevent at least some vehicles from being in harms way, and that they also managed to drop an anchor (to no apparent effect). Based on those efforts I don't get the impression of obvious incompetence or malice to justify blaming them without evidence.
If power loss was at a straight line, and it has two counter rotating props (I don’t what it has), torque shouldn’t be an issue. I’m interested in knowing the drive train layout.
It was so fortunate to have happened when bridge traffic was light. Unfortunate for road crew that may have not been there during the day.
I think stupidity, ineptness, corruption, and malice often go about arm-in-arm.
But this does not look like a terrorist attack to me. Sometimes, an accident is just an accident
News flash #1
Sometimes stuff happens.
News flash #2
Incompetence and stupidity explain more stuff that happens than complicated theories.
The Democrats are a little too fond of that phrase “without evidence”. Opus?
Not to mention, “suspect” and “blame” are not synonyms. Just to be on the record. As the evidence comes in, things are not looking good for the crew.
Quite right. And, depending on the exact tonnage, vessels that big begin to produce their own gravitational/magnetic fields. Usually the Coast Guard escorts at that point, but I have no idea what exactly happened here.
Heh, you were probably the one who made it!
