So ILLEGAL Immigrants can get free food, lodging, and money from Tax Payers, but Heaven forbid a kid getting a free cookie.

When I was 8 my mom would send me to the store to pick up cigarattes.

My parents owned a grocery store. I saw this happen many times. It was a better, freer country back then.

Whenever you see a lone police officer. call 911 and report it, it’s not safe for them to be alone.

Some innocent dog could get shot!

If you are a married couple living together and your child is over two the chances of them being "snatched" is about the same as the chances of them being hit by lightning.

It can happen. But most likely will not.

Most of these attempted kidnappings are from the US. Why a two-parent family makes a difference is beyond me. Both parents aren’t around all day long most of a week. One of the attempts was in front of both parents, but the crazy woman didn’t care. Is your child likely to be snatched? No, but there is always that potential. Arrogance can cost you what you love the most.

Why a two-parent family makes a difference is beyond me.

Because mostly kidnappings are custodial in nature.

Child abduction by a stranger is rare.

There is always the potential of danger in everything.

Including getting out of bed in the morning. Also staying in bed. Some poor dude had a sinkhole open up underneath his house and he fell into it and was never found.

People have been watching TV and have had speeding vehicles come through their front window and kill them.

It is not arrogance, it is simple fact. We can not protect them at all times and we have to raise them into functional adults that face the world with bravery.

Currently we have raised a generation of child-adults that are unable to make a choice about anything because they are afraid.

Apparently, a 7 year-old can’t be away from their parents except to ride a school bus without a seat belt.

The original article has nothing to do with custodial kidnapping. It has everything to do with thinking children are safe wandering around on their own when non-custodial kidnappings occur right in front of the parents!

How about asking a parent who lost a “free-range” child to a kidnapper and never saw that child again? Ask them what they think of parents who ignore reality. Ask the police officers who have to deal with these cases that turn into nightmares for families.

I wish none of us had to worry about people with evil intentions, but we’re stupid if we don’t take precautions.

I was speaking of kidnapping in general. Biological children of married couples who are over the age of two have almost no chance of being kidnapped. Which is what this child was.

Just statistics.

How about asking a parent who lost a “free-range” child to a kidnapper and never saw that child again?

Find me three in the US in the past year.

That is the point. The risk is very low.

So low that you hovering over the child every minute makes the "Chance of being kidnapped" needle just quiver a tiny bit.

On the other hand it does move the "Chance of raising a fearful person who will never grow up" needle a great deal.

There are no solutions, only trade offs. I see my job as to raise brave adults who will go out into the world. You obviously do not see it that way. Hopefully your way works with yours and you do not raise agoraphobic neurotics who cause sorrow for everyone who has the misfortune to encounter them.
