Victor Davis Hanson: Is The Great Illusion In Ruins?
American Greatness ^ | 8 Apr, 2024 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 04/08/2024 4:48:33 AM PDT by MtnClimber

The long-awaited Great Fundamental Transformation finally got its moment, crashed, and now has torched the nation—middle-class Americans most of all.

In 2021, Joe Biden was elected after a bitterly fought campaign that deposed the incumbent Donald Trump. Democrats eventually captured, for a time, both the House and Senate, ensuring the most left-wing government in modern American history.

Americans were then set to witness a great experiment. For the first time in their lives, a truly radical socialist program would supposedly fundamentally transform the way America dealt with the border, immigration, the economy, race relations, foreign policy, energy, law enforcement, crime, education, and social questions such as religion, gender, abortion, and schooling.

In a sense, we were all to be lab rats of sorts, to be experimented on by the radical left and their various critical theories. Now in the last year of the Biden term, we can see the results of that experiment—and the unfortunate disasters that followed.

But first, how was such a radical move to the left even possible in a center-right America?

The Democratic nominee, Biden, had earlier united the left, but only through a Faustian deal. The handlers of a nearly non compos mentis Biden had ushered all his 2020 primary rivals out of the primary races in unison.

But in exchange for their exits that ensured Biden the nomination, the left took over his general campaign—in which Biden was virtually relegated to his basement—and then set his agenda.

Who was running things?

The mysterious architects of White House ideology included, inter alia, the omnipresent, now-Washington-DC-dwelling Obamas, the old socialist gadfly Bernie Sanders, the fossilized tribunes of the black and Latino congressional caucuses, the DEI firebrand Squad, and the neo-socialist scold Elizabeth Warren.

FROM THE ARTICLE: Biden is polling about 40 percent approval...

It is shocking that 40 in 100 people polled actually approve of Biden. Do we really have that many hard core leftists (of whatever ilk: Marxist, communist, socialist) in the country?

City States ought to live or die on their own.

Agree we are seeing how the blue states and cities have made their death list work.

Yes we do have that many.

The MSM, Hollywood and our ‘Institutions of higher indoctrination’ have done their jobs well.

“Our Nation is in ruins...”

Even Wray left the plantation long enough to state:

“In early March, FBI Director Chris Wray warned a Senate panel that dangerous individuals had entered the United States illegally at the southern border. We have had dangerous individuals entering the United States have a variety of sources,” Wray said at the annual “Worldwide Threats” congressional hearings.”

So, with the treasonous Biden administration in control, the entire United States is under siege, and the carnage will start sometime this year. Will it be piecemeal, or overwhelming?

The left operates through deception and it is apparent that many people are easy to fool.

Exactly! Sadly, socialism/communism will always be popular with those who think they can get something for nothing.

America is not the only country under siege by illegals/immigrants.

New Zealand Tightens Visa Rules as ‘Unsustainable’ Migration Soars

New Zealand’s conservative government announced Sunday it has tightened work visa rules as “unsustainable” migration levels soar to near-record highs.

Low-skilled applicants now have to fulfil English-language requirements and are allowed to stay for three years – down from five previously – amid fears that high immigration levels are driving up house prices.

“Getting our immigration settings right is critical to this government’s plan to rebuild the economy,” said Immigration Minister Erica Stanford.

Close to a record 173,000 non-citizens migrated to New Zealand last year.

Almost 60% of our country pays no Federal Income Tax! Guess who they will mostly vote for?

You are nuts, what happens in CA, and the big cities IS IN THE burbs, OK, Kansas, Dakotas, Idaho and Montana. It is still in the pot but reaching a full on simmer. VDH sees clearly, those who think they are immune from this do not understand how totalitarianism works. IT DOESN’T stop until the entire Nation from E to W, N to South are included in the madness.

Exactly, I have thought the same thing myself. Seattle metro area, LA, NYC, Atlanta and others, should get status as a State. Allow CA, NY, GA, MI and Illinois to separate from the jungle gyms that are the major cities.

That’s what I want to know! I’m sure some of these journalists know something more than they write about. Maybe they fear for their lives. IDK. Just saying Obama or Bernie are behind the transformation is fantasy

status as a State

I don't have a clear vision of how I wish it were structured, but I would say that if the big cities were actually "states", then each big city would get two senators in congress, and at least one designated congressman. Not ideal.

I would like to see City States which would have less than expected political power. Living in the city may be desirable for some (to make money, to enjoy culture, etc.) but reaping political power should not be possible in a city. It should be an area of political weakness, not strength. Otherwise, the cities become the tail that wags the dog -- which is what we have now.

How about a mini electoral college system within the states. Each county gets 1 vote in deciding how the state will vote in the national electoral college. This would limit the power of cities just as the national electoral college system limits the power of the high population states.

Of course, blue state legislatures wouldn’t exactly love the idea...

I think I like that idea.

Counties elect the Executive Branch.
General population elect people for the US House of Reps.
Bring back the State legislatures to select US Senators.

The States, the People, the Counties — everyone has their role.

Biden is polling about 40 percent approval

Which means that 40% of us have no reasoning ability to come to their own conclusions about anything.

IDK how to do it, but the big cities hold too much power, and they exert it with Federal funds to bribe the constituents.

A freeper posted that idea many years ago and it stuck with me. I like your take about who elects who. Dividing things that way does seem to fit the general scheme that our founders had.

The Democratic Congress was far, far from a “radical socialist” body. If they were we would have universal health care, high import tariffs, incentives for domestic manufacture, and a cap on legal interest rates.

We have none of those things.

I’m disappointed that a truth-teller of VDH’s caliber would pay lip service to this big lie - that “Joe Biden was elected”. He was not.

* * *

Thank you. Some well-enumerated truth in your comments.

What’s more, the courts totally failed us. They were complicit in the Biden coup d’état.

Well it used to be that STUPID people died died in their younger years and never reached voting age.

So the PROG/LIB/COMMUNIST/SOCIALIST power mongers lowered the voting age and put a lot of protections in place for the STUPID, got them a lot more votes, didn’t it?

Exactemundo! Pedojoe Biteme wasn’t ‘elected’ and there was no “hard faught campaign”, as Biteme said, he didn’t NEED votes.
