Kristi Noem has ‘no shot’ as Trump’s VP pick after puppy-killing controversy: sources

Gov. Kristi Noem has “no shot” at being Donald Trump’s running mate after revealing in a forthcoming book that she shot and killed her puppy, sources close to the 45th president tell The Post.

***

“She was already unlikely to be picked as VP, but had a shot,” the person said of Noem, who has been widely projected to be on Trump’s shortlist.

“After this, it’s just impossible.”

Noem writes, according to the Guardian, that she executed Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, after determining that the pooch’s “aggressive personality” made her “untrainable” as a hunting dog.

“It was not a pleasant job,” the 52-year-old recounts, “but it had to be done.”

*** “Trump isn’t a dog person necessarily,” “but I think he understands that you can’t choose a puppy killer as your pick, for blatantly obvious reasons.”

A second source told The Post that Trump “likes Kristi a lot,” but was “disappointed when hearing the ‘dog’ story. ***

Unfettered, Cricket attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another,” according to the governor.

When Noem tried to restrain the dog, Cricket “whipped around to bite me,” and was “the picture of pure joy” during the fowl-killing spree.

In the same excerpt, Noem described in graphic detail her killing a male goat who was “nasty and mean” because it was uncastrated, and “loved to chase” her children around.

To kill the goat, she “dragged him to the gravel pit” where she disposed of Cricket and had to shoot him repeatedly to finish the job.

I know, I was being sarcastic. But I did shoot a dog while naked.

I think you pointed out a valid hypocrisy. It’s a no-win for Noem or probably any politician, but it doesn’t mean you’re wrong.

the dog needed training, not killing. it would be like killing your kid because they didn’t listen to you (do many of them actually listen?:)).

what she did is really stupid and cruel and at the VERY least, she should have kept it to herself

The people that murder and mutilate foetuses and newborns are going to vilify her thoroughly for killing a dog that had a propensity to kill other little furry animals. I’ll never be in politics because I’ve had to kill thousands of them.

That’s fair. The puppy statement is weird, and being repeated a lot.
Thanks.

Major has bitten agents 24 times.

There can be no argument that dog should be put down but I guess Biden knows how that would be his “Kristi Noem” moment, so he keeps that dangerous dog alive.

Yeah, seems only natural. Dogs are bred to be almost hard-wired with certain instinctive behaviors, and they don’t understand our rules around those behaviors without proper, patient and thorough training. And even then, don’t tempt a birding dog with some tasty chickens ;)

If I’d ever seen him speak the way you describe - even once, among the many times I’ve seen him speak to national audiences - I expect I’d feel somewhat differently about his speaking style. But it’d have to be WAY more than an occasional one-off for him to be an effective running mate.

Any animal that kills livestock in farm country is a dead animal. And yes chickens are livestock. And animal control would kill it also, no one wants a dog that bites people and kills chickens.

She killed a dog that killed livestock (chickens).

Farmers do it all the time.

If you live near a cattle farm, don’t let your dogs trespass onto it.

The puppy statement is weird, and being repeated a lot.

It was no doubt discussed extensively at the morning meeting of all the national political Media people, as the best "kill shot" to take out Noem.

Not that those people collude several times daily to create the current Narrative. /s

I get the little puppy thing. Bad story or maybe I’m callous.

Someone should tell "reporter" Diana Glebova that a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer is NOT a "puppy".

Lie like The Media...

The "puppy" was the human equivalent of 18 years old.

You know - like a month-old human baby. /s
