Are we seeing the young men in our country sign up as we did after Pearl Harbor?

Carlos passed away (from MS?) a few years ago - but if we could only have him now, in position a couple thousand meters away from the bad guys.....

There are plenty of Carlos's out there...I personally know of 6 here in my town.
Trouble is, they're all geezers...maybe we can use them to train a new crop..?

When we have a draft will women be included?

Dear Marbren,
Oh, of course not. When I was pushing for all that
equality stuff for the military, I didn't mean during
wartime.

Sincerely,
Patricia "Squinty" Schroeder

I'd just hate to volunteer and end up doing what some of my friends are doing right now....weight room manager, mess hall manager, PX manager. I guess thats they're punishment for having college degrees, they just make you manager of something.

I sent his 2 days ago

I turned 53 this month. I am a Viet Nam Veteran, US Navy '66-'69 Can you advise me if the Oregon National Guard has the same age limit requiremants. United States Code TITLE 32 - NATIONAL GUARD Sec. 313. Appointments and enlistments: age limitations (a) To be eligible for original enlistment in the National Guard, a person must be at least 17 years of age and under 45, or under 64 years of age and a former member of the Regular Army, Regular Navy, Regular Air Force, or Regular Marine Corps. To be eligible for reenlistment, a person must be under 64 years of age. Thank you for your time. God Bless America

They replied they don't know they have to "check" and find out.
A FReeper I know is an officer in the Oregon Air National Guard and he said the recuiters told him they want 20 good years out of you.

I'm 43 and was regular Air Force from 76-80. I called the USAF recruiter last week and just tonight recieved a call back. I did get an email from the Air Force a few days ago saying the limited number of recruiters they have are swamped with applicants and that they would get to me eventually. Turns out they are accepting those under age 44 but alas, I would be disqualified due to my high blood pressure. I told him the blood pressure is controlled by pills but he explained that if I were captured or put in a situation where I did not have access to the pills I would be endangered. I kind of thought if I was captured that high blood pressure would be the least of my worries. Anyway, it appears as though enlistments are going quite well, at least for US Air Force.

During the 40's 33% were volunteers, 67% were draftees. Initially the draft was for 21-34 year olds but was lowered to 18 due to the lack of volunteers. During the Vietnam-era the numbers were just about reversed. Also during Vietnam, about 10 percent of those drafted volunteered to be drafted since draftees only had a two year obligation compared to the three or four year obligation for enlistees.
