John McCain is talking to Dave Letterman on Late Night.
McCain: What is Osama Bin Laden going to be for Halloween?
Dave: What is he going to be?
McCain: dead.
However, his politics are distinctly non-freeper. He has contempr for rural americans' concerns; he can't stand conservatives, especially christian conservatives quite frankly; The legislative proposals he's so touted for in the media would actually violate free speech sensibilities of 70% of Americans should it ever be implemented;

Come on, give over. What's the joke?
Come on, guy- you can't give Bush credit for everything! This was John McCain at his best, plain and simple. He's got his faults, as we all know- but there are moments where he really shines. I especially think his backing of Israel has been awesome throughout this whole thing. Interesting that the conservative AND liberal media have largely ignored this, respectively.
"On October 27, 1967, four days after being shot down, McCain called for a North Vietnamese guard. He told the officer, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." -U.S. News and World Report, May 14, 1973 article written by former POW John McCain"
The Code of Conduct was put into effect after Korea when numerous POWs had collabrated with the enemy.
Every Military Member is Required to Memorize This Code During Their Basic Training.
Now, here is the Code of Conduct as it was originally written (it has since been changed in the 1980's to make it more PC):
The Code of Conduct
Article I
I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defence.
Article II
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command I will never Surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.
Article III
If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
Article IV
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those oppointed over me and will back them up in every way.
Article V
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.
Article VI
I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.
John McCain violated 3 of the 6 BASIC TENETS of being a soldier. He offered (and gave) military information that conceivably could have cost 100s of lives. John McCain is NOT a hero. He was a traitor.
Sorry, I can't tell it like McCain, it was 20 years ago. He said Jane fonda was in france in teen years and they were so anti-american, he described that, then she was in midst of anti-war america and naturally fawned over anti-americanism because of her background, so he didn't blame her (a young woman in 20's) it was french intellectuals she hung out with.
True, he didn't have a lot of time in combat, but admiral stockdale and the others in his pow camp thought he was a hero and their stories show evidence of this.
However, it took him about one minute before he sank the knife into the back of the Republican members of the House. How did you like him digging into Tom Delay? (Delay, Delay, DELAY!) I couldn't stomach it after that, so I shut him off.

John McCain was NOT a war hero for the period of time he was a POW.
That's why Hidy likes him.
