Fellow Freepers,
Can't stand it anymore here in New England. The DEMONcrats won all of the surrounding towns, swept the area, and are breathing down my neck. Taxes are going through the roof, and the radical libs are winning seats everywhere.
They're surrounding me...those yipping voices and holier than thou gestures...closing in...WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN?...strangling me..can't breathe...grabbing for Bushmaster...oops, sorry, lost control there for a second.
My question is, where can I go to be among my own kind?
I can pretty much live anywhere. Here's what I'm looking for:
1. Reasonable taxes.
2. Couldn't care less about the educational system (no kids, no plans for kids).
3. I'd like a good amount of land, near or on a body of water would be great.
4. Solid repub/conservative local government, within a conservative, friendly state would be great as well.
Other than that, I'm open.
Suggestions anyone?
Thanks,
Cato
IdaKnow!!??
how bout it?
wyoming "rush hour traffic"...
Also, can you give me a town or two in Northern AZ?
It ain't so bad here in MO. Rural MO has lots of land, lakes and reasonable taxes.
Here in Jefferson City, we're a bit of a hybrid...Some Pubbies with some socially conservative Dems. Religion is not taboo in schools. Concealed carry lost narrowly due to the statewide vote dominated by KC and St. L...but we have hope!
If you're interested in politics, you could make a difference down here. A few people run the show and everyone else pretty much ignores them unless they pull something stupid. Local boaters are a courageous lot, often standing up to local envirals in creative ways and showing up en mass at townhall meetings when their rights are threatened.
If you're a weather watcher or photographer, we have amazing sunsets, stormclouds and rainbows. It did snow once...twenty years ago or so. (^:
I was walking in 'downtown' St. Louis when someone walking toward me said 'Hi, how are you?' I nearly jumped out of my skin. I worked in NYC for a while. Head down, no eye contact, fast walking.
Finally, he gets to the last state. He walks into the church and sees the telephone but it says "Call Heaven, 10 cents". "10 cents!" He says to himself. He finds the preacher and says "Sir, I've been to every state in America and in every other church the call to heaven is $10,000! Why does it cost 10 cents here?"
The preachers looks at the man and says "Son, you are in Texas. It's a local call!"
The only real worry I have about Florida is that whenever one of the brain addled liberals around here retires or moves away, it always seems to be to Florida.
I fear we're exporting our lunatics to your beautiful state. What's more, it fits with my theory that the liberals only gravitate to the nicest climates (and ruin them). Although since we lost a Congressman in the last census I like to say we sent it down to Florida.
How's the humidity?
I came to MO due to a good job, but have found it's a great place to raise a family (outside STL and KC that is).
One thing I have noticed is that people in MO are LARGER than in other states I have lived in...it seems that eating is a sport around here...
It was a huge hit.
You bet, thats exactly what has and is happening.
I personally refuse to leave my little bit of paradise in California and we love it. Wouldn't leave for anything as we have been to most places in this great country.
You can run but you can't hide. Its time that folks stayed put and take a stand, or else we will all be living on barren tundra wasteland.
1) Property taxes are through the roof!! I don't know the average, but they're about 2-3 times higher than other states in the Midwest.
2) The humidity can be annoying around here, but it's not bad for me.
3) As WIMom mentioned, do NOT live in Milwaukee or Dane County! The local city councils there are bastions of liberal idiocy.
4) Wisconsin winters can be a royal pain, but if you like snow, it's great.
There are positives to add to WIMom's list.
1) The sales tax for most areas is very low; for Sheboygan County (where I live, halfway between Green Bay & Milwaukee) sales tax is 5.0%.
2) There are plenty of conservative, small town places to settle.
3) If yah like tah drink beer an eat brats, Wisconsin iss da state to be in, hey!
One more thing: If you aren't a Packer fan, be prepared; Packer fans are unlike any other group I know. They're a different breed of fan.
