So who was this Mayan and where did you talk to him?
What did he really say?

They couldn't invent the wheel either so I'm not too worried about 2012.

I thought Pizarro ended up having molten gold poured down his throat,or was it silver?
Can't say I'd have wanted to pull a rope of thorns through my tongue or other appendage
but then the drugs helped. They had a quite sophisticated pharmacology.
Clysters for Everyone, some need it more than others!

Furthermore, you do Christianity an honor with your 'filthy Spanish' remark in post #8.You misspelled a word. Arrogant, conceited civilization. Everyone I've ever known believed himself/herself to any Latin American. Just my opinion. No need to spew coffee, etc.

And they predicted a pretty grisly end, right?

Perhaps a bit more blood-letting and genital mutilation would be in order for some our present day politicians to prove their dedication to the betterment of the nation. Might leave us with less unsavory characters. LOL!!!

I think it would be likely to be
MORE
OR
less unsavory characters. The Mayan leaders were not loving, charitable folks to quite a number of their victims.
But, the principle of some kind of serious test of humility and loyalty to the people and Nation would certainly be an improvement over what we seem to arrive at now.

Maybe they just figured someone else could pick up the ball from there :)
That's exactly what happened.

Seems to me all it means is that the Mayans would have needed a new calendar the next day, that's all.

The Mayans still alive and you are thinking of Hernando Cortez.

The Protestant German countries adopted the Gregorian reform in 1700. By this time, the calendar was behind the seasons by 11 days. England and the American colonies finally followed suit in 1752, and Wednesday, September 2, 1752 was immediately followed by Thursday, September 14, 1752. This change resulted in widespread riots and the poeple demanding "Give us the eleven days back!"
Many people predicting the furture forget events like this.
