Political Correctness Poisons Free Speech
The Minnesota Daily online ^

Posted on 12/29/2001 12:11:38 PM PST by Enough is ENOUGH

Exerpt: "The connection between the Frankfurt School and the student rebellion of the 1960s was made primarily by a key Frankfurt School member, Herbert Marcuse -- the man who in the '60s coined the phrase, "Make love, not war." Marcuse's books, "Eros" and "Civilization," argued that the tools with which to destroy Western culture were, in effect, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. He popularized the Frankfurt School's ideas in ways the '60s radicals could understand and absorb, and we now know his work as political correctness."

I know the feeling. I had a poly sci instuctor who subverted an intro course by turning it into an anti-HUAC course. Although I was politically naive at the time I developed a distrust for instructors in disciplines other than business. As a result, I carefully chose my remaining elective courses.

This experience has stayed with me. I have never doubted for a moment that the leftist movement has infiltrated and taken over our college campuses.

The Democrat party is basically a cultural Marxist party today, and the GOP is well on the way to becoming one.

This is a very very important point. Political correctness has remained unchanged in many (most?) government agencies under the Republicans. They have now held the White House long enough that this can no longer be excused.

The Republicans must denouce all PC with words and then deeds every day or they must be viewed as enemies of free speech and freedom itself.

They must reject the language of liberalism or their own thoughts will be subverted by their language.

It appears that was the intent, and it worked, even among conservatives

Unfortunately, there is a lot of PC among conservatives.

"...Tying the academia to the media as the main culprits in the degradation of American values and standards could be legitimate goals in the Culture War in the coming years....[They now are] on the defensive".

True -- there is concerted coordinated linkage between academia and the media, but more importantly, we must recognize where it is indeed first hatched -- at grade school level, where the socialist-driven NEA has not only corrupted and lobomized the American youth from the get-go with their own customized, self-serving subversive agenda, but their powerful lobby simply will not allow politicians to UNconfiscate school taxes and support vouchers and school choice.

Therein lies the root of ALL unAmericanism, IMO -- the NEA's hijacking of education and implementation of a socialist indoctrination.

No one, NO ONE on this forum, is as PC ( their own brand ), code word / phrase addled, as the Libertarians are. Their methods are exactly the same ; from the ubicquitous " statist " , to chained, in chains, authoritarian, etc.! There is NO difference between their attacks , and the homophobe / racists / sexist gambit , to shut others up / change the subject. Instead of the touchy / feely , counter coulture " until you walk in my / their shoes " ( which, unfortunately, some FREEPERS ascribe to ) , they try to beat everyone else over the head with the Constitution.

The farther right one gets, the more LEFT one really is.

The people on this website who are always pushing the "abuse" button to stifle views that transgress political correctness are basically Gramscian Marxists.

I have to agree. This was such an interesting forum before 1999. I used to print out the threads because the discussions were so interesting. I have hopes that it will one day return to the excellence it once displayed.

"PC" has thoroughly permeated our society. Unfortunately, people follow trends such as PC and don't question their meaning or where they may lead.

"It can't be stated enough that PC is the death of free speech"

That is SO true; which is furthur proof that the liberals promoting this garbage are operating at diminished mental capacity as they make their irrational demands in the name of free speech. Just as they always seek out a convenient excuse where they can hang their utter lack of accountablity, it is nice to have a pseudo-constitutional premise on which to base their unreasonable demands. Still, we foolishly misinterpret the concept of free speech ourselves, as if the right of free speech was a guarantee of a microphone and a television camera. I'm afraid that as long as we treat these morons as if they deserve to be taken seriously, this infection will continue to fester.

While what you discuss does have Continental European aspects and partial roots, the main thrust of the movement for an undifferentiated humanity--which is what "political correctness" clearly seeks--comes right out of the American Universities that accepted the slanted views of Ashley Montagu and Gordon Allport and Norman Cousins in the 1940s and 1950s. (See Myths & Myth Makers In American Higher Education.)

Perhaps we are merely arguing over who should get the most credit for destroying our civilization. Those who hate it, have long cooperated in trying to bring about our demise.

In a similar vein:

How do we fight it? Well, for starters, identifying it for what it is. Speak out against it. Expose it by explaining to others the concepts contained in the (link) exerpts I printed in Post #4.

I briefly scanned an article by a Commanche descendent who said the only way for Americans to fight PC is for us to regain our "warrior spirit" that we used to win this country.

I am not a paleo. I am not a neo-con. I am not a libertarian. I prefer to think of myself as a traditional conservative.

However, that being said, I welcome all 3 of the above divergent strains of conservatism.

This forum, like many insitutions of "the right" seem to have been targetted for a take-over by the "neo-cons". It is only my own opinion of course, but the spiritual ancestor of the "neo-con" strain of conservatism, are the ex-Trotskyite intellectuals, primarily out of New York.

In their zeal to impose their own view of "conservatism", they remind me very much of the real deal Marxists, who, of course, banished and silenced, anyone who took a contrary opinion.

IMO this is a must read:

Occam's Razor at PCU by Diane Alden

Is the Dumbing Down of America working?

•42 percent of American adults cannot locate Japan on a world map, and 15 percent cannot even locate the United States.

•40 percent of American adults do not know that Germany was our enemy in World War II.

•84 percent of American college seniors do not know who was president at the start of the Korean War.

•58 percent of American high school seniors cannot understand a newspaper editorial in any newspaper.

•According to a U.S. Department of Education survey of 22,000 students in 1995, 50 percent were unaware of the Cold War and 60 percent did not know how the United States came into existence.

•63 percent of American adults believe that the earliest human beings lived at the same time as dinosaurs, 53 percent believe the earth revolves around the sun, and 91 percent can't state what a molecule is.

***********************************************************

The collegiate and intellectual left did not blink or break stride when Marxism in the form of communism and socialism failed miserably around the world. They just recreated Marxism in the new skins of political correctness and now it is called progressive, or in most cases, the Democratic Party.

Hillary Clinton, Cynthia McKinney and Sheila Jackson Lee, as well as Patrick Leahy, Teddy Kennedy, Tom Daschle and George Miller would be good examples. The progressive and unaccountable left now probably controls half the votes in the United States. They get their intellectual ammunition from the universities, which everyone, left or right, pays for.

Here is an article describing in depth the PC rules and regulations that many of our college campuses have enacted. It's right out of Orwell's 1984. No, actually it's worse because it's nonfiction.

Ah ... but I will never forget the Florida vote and how many people --especially freepers --turned up in Washington and shouted and laughed at Jesse Jackson. We must continue the battle for the Culture for our children and our children's children!!
