Auditor Says Enron Documents Gone
AP ^ | 01/10/2002

WASHINGTON- The firm that audited the books of collapsed Enron Corp., Arthur Andersen LLP, disclosed Thursday that a "significant but undetermined" number of documents related to the company had been destroyed.

Federal law enforcement agencies and congressional investigators are seeking the documents as part of their inquiries into the failure of the giant energy-trading company, which left countless investors burned and employees out of work with billions of dollars of losses in their Enron-heavy retirement accounts.

The Big Five accounting firm said in a statement that in recent months, electronic files and other documents related to its auditing of Enron had been destroyed or deleted.

What? Was Hillary on the board of directors here too?

You've hit the nail on the head. This story is about Arthur Anderson and Enron. But because President Bush is friends with the former CEO of Enron, the media want to have their day in the sun. Like lizards.

Then the executives of Arthur Anderson should be put in jail and their firms should have their licenses to practice pulled immediately. This is deliberate obstruction of justice.

This is as close to a flat-out admission of guilt as we are likely to see.

Question - were the documents in question destroyed at Enron or in the offices of AA? ? ? Makes a BIG difference!

FRegards . . .

Uh oh, the AICPA and SEC is not going to like this!!

The only time I remember Audit Files and coming up missing was when a staff members car caught on fire on I-70 with the Auditors bags in the trunk.

I bet the sign-off papers on the nebbed files was about to be embarassing to some staff & Partners at A.A. L.L.P.

Let's hope this is the beginning of the end of Andersen.

The most arrogant, money-grubbing of the big audit firms.

Burn'em, Justice!

This is going to be very messy, for Republicans in particular. There are all kinds of skeletons here--which unfortunately will come to light. Even more so now that the "missing documents" piece has been added. Since "ooops, missing docs" has been going on since the first document was composed, one would think they would have learned something. Very simply, while Enron contributed to both parties, they were in bed with all the Repub big guns--W flew on the Enron plane multiple times, Cheney had those folks in on numerous occasions while formulating "energy policy", and Armey was on the Banking and Finance committee voting to give Enron free reign in a number of areas while his wife sat on the Enron board....going to be messy, very messy. And you would've hope that they would've been honest and not gotten involved with Clintonian games of missing docs...

It was discussed one evening on Fox during the 6:00 hour that Arthur Anderson made tens of millions of dollars a year providing consulting fees for Enron, in addition to cooking, I mean, monitoring their books. I lived in CT years ago when Arthur Anderson was caught out with a huge development company that went under - the company went under within a month or two of Arthur Anderson providing quarterly reports to investors that looked glowingly healthy. The White House needs to turn this story around ASAP.

Arthur Andersen had something like a $52 million deal with Enron between consulting and auditing/accounting. At those dollars I wonder how Enron was able to hide enough items off book to get in this type financial trouble. At the dollars they were getting I'm sure Arthur Anderson had some good accountants working on a project this large.

I don't know what Arthur Anderson's links are to the DNC, but I do know they are dirty and have caught investors flat-footed before by providing false glowing quarterly investment reports.
