Outrage from New Hampshire!
Our friends at sister site PoliticsNH.com brought this offensive political cartoon to our attention. It was drawn by Mike Mariand and printed in today's Concord Monitor.
We don't have a problem with those who criticize President George W. Bush. In fact, we've taken a few shots at the Commander-in-Chief ourselves, when we thought he deserved rebuke. But to use the horrific September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that killed almost 3,000 innocent civilians to make a political point about the president's budget is disgusting. If Mariand were drawing cartoons in 1941, would he have drawn President Franklin Roosevelt piloting one of the Japanese fighter planes that participated in the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor to convey his opinion on an issue of the day?
If you would like to tell the folks at the Concord Monitor what you think about their political cartoon, we urge you to e-mail Mark Travis, the editorial page editor at mtravis@cmonitor.com. (2/8)

Just sent this email: Mr. Travis Suggest that this cartoon would have more realism if it were: Plane = Daschle Obstruction Towers = Economic Stimulus Even though its about Daschle, it still would be in bad taste. Sincerely,

E-mail just posted, as follows:
I am shocked and appalled at the tasteless, insensitive and mean-spirited political cartoon that was published in today's edition.
Your hatred for President Bush has to be at the point of irrationality to cause you to lower yourselves into this gutter. It's incomprehensible to think that this hatred would cause you to defile the memory of the nearly 3,000 souls who were murdered at the World Trade Center on that terrible day by treating it as a joke.

Here are their
advertisers that financially support this filth being printed. Nice, to the point, e-mail to each of these businesses would be a good start. They probably did not know this garbage was going to be printed with their ad dollars.

This is the e-mail I sent today I am a Viet Nam Veteran, my son-in-law is a member of the special forces fighting in Afghanistan, and my daughter is a Captain in the U.S. Army also. Those two wonderful kids along with several others are putting their lives on the line and some have an will lose them for you and I, and the slap in the face that you give to the commander in chief is just out of touch with the world. If the terrorists win this war Social Security will not do anyone any good. And this total BS of a Social Security lock box is just that BS. I have been a lifelong democrat but since Clinton and then your so called senator Jeffers (sp) and now this ,shows me have had been wrong all these years. I will never vote democratic again and the only good thing about this despicable cartoon tells me I am right.

Fired off a WICKED E-Mail to these idiots. Will send E-Mail to ALL of their advertizers as well

This cartoonist is a total *******. I hope he gets fired. The publisher should fire the Editor-in-Chief for letting this image be printed within the pages of the Concord Monitor. This is the sort of stupidity that causes advertisers to flee -- rightly so.

In addition to everybody else's criticisms, it also displays an astonishing lack of creativity.

This is what I wrote to the paper:
Your comic by Mike Mariand showing Bush flying into the Trade Towers is outragious. Do any of you have any brains, common sense or decency? Apparently not. I think you should give the guy a gift on this Friday...called a Pink Slip. If you approved this comic, you should give yourself one too.

Here's my letter
Dear Mr. Travis, I just saw that awful cartoon of our President flying a plane into the WTC. This is really sickening. I cried every day, all day, for months after September 11. I knew some of the firemen who were killed in that terrorist attack. To think you would print a cartoon, of all things, making light of our grief and sorrow is truly disgusting. I intend to let everyone I know about this disgraceful cartoon.
