Sort of. He's an extremely light skinned black person. He's also very good in interviews, and puts himself across as a "moderate." Definitely has more political skills and class than your average black caucus congressman. He definitely has a decent chance of winning if the Republicans put up a weak candidate.

Ford will be nearly impossible to beat. He's popular, articulate, and soft spoken. The GOP candidate, whoever it is, will have to run a first-class campaign and she will have to leverage her African American conservative background to the fullest.

So true. The first few times I saw him on TV I though he was an agreable Zel Miller type Democrat. He is a very SLICK politician.

I'm not worried about this at all. East Tennesseans and for the most part Nashvillians want nothing to do with Memphis and their politicians. I'll agree that he does well on the national tv circuit, but people in Tenn. know what a horrible inner city hood Memphis has become and don't wish to spread it to the rest of the state. Memphis' liberal ways have dug it into a deep hole. It's unlikely it'll ever recover.
