So true. Spent two years in Tipton County. It didn't take long to develope a dislike for and distrust of the West Tennessee political machines.

Ford running? Great plenty and plenty of dirt and mud in the Ford political history. Thankfully they didn't pick Bob Clement. Go ED Bryant. Go Marsha Blackburn, Go Jimmy Duncan, Fords all yours!!!! Lamar Alexander? Just go away! Let's put some backbone back in the senate!

Jimmy Duncan is a good man who will win Knoxville and the east hands down and probably a good portion of outlying Nashville. He's got great potential.

don't let him Memphisize all of Tennessee. He is a moderate like Clinton was a moderate.

Cant be a plus... Blacks already vote 95% Democrat, any non-brie eating white surely is going to know this guy is too liberal for their tastes. I foresee a close win by Lamar! Hopefully we can find a real strong conservative.

His father, Harold Ford the elder, held his congressional seat until it was time for his son to "inherit it." His father was as crooked as could be, and scandal followed him, but like Bill Clinton and most of the political class, he never paid for anything. Throughout Tennessee the Fords do not have a very good name, but in Memphis they are a powerhouse.

Junior has never had an original idea in his life. Harold Sr. talks and Junior's mouth moves. Pops, BTW, had a bank fraud investigation against him halted shortly after Clinton's election. Elect Junior and Pops comes along for the ride. Bad news.

Ford will get a larger black turnout than might otherwise vote. That helps him.

But it might also spur a turnout against him, based partly on his race, too. I have no idea what the current state of race relations in Tennessee is, but historically it's been tough for a black to get elected to the Senate from anywhere.

To the Lamar Alexander cheerleaders I hate to burst your bubble but it has been over 100 years since a Tennessee governor has won ELECTED office after the governorship. The last possibly being Old Hickory. A former TN governor did serve as senator did serve in or around 1900 but as one freeper pointed out he was not elected by popular vote.

Why are you all in a panic? Ford isn't going to win TN. Just because he got elected in Memphis or wherever he is from doesn't mean he is going to fool the whole state.

Touche, the wife loves brie too. I dont mind wine. And I like Volvos. ... uh oh, stop me befoe I start liking Bab S. tooo .. :-) ... I guess I really meant, there are not too many die-hard Liberal/Leftist whites in TN. The white Dems are southern Dems, and if Ford can be painted as a Jesse Jackson-style Democrat, he is toast.

Same here. I wonder, can he keep his house seat while running?

I believe so. Does Joseph Lieberman ring a bell?

He like bore was groomed for his job. Unlike bore, he isn't wooden. Smooth as a snake.
