If you notice sports teams are named after "tough fighters or animals". You don't see the Detroit Bunny Rabbits, you see the Detroit Lions. There are a reason that you see team names like Bulldogs, Spartans, Wolverines, Fighting Irish, Celtics, Trojans, Jaguars, Lions, Tigers, Grizzlies, Bears, Chippewas, Hurons, Eagles, Timberwolves, Highlanders, Seminoles, and Vikings. You don't see teams named after the rabbits, mice, rats, squirrels, French, peaceniks, and the like.

That must explain the University of California, Santa Cruz Banana Slugs!

The University of Oregon has to license their image from Disney. (Go Ducks!) You can see why:

I think it may be a copywrited image. Looks pretty close to an image on a line of tee shirts with slogans like "Beer, helping ugly people get laid since 1856" that I've seen sold in Rockabillia cataloges.

My wife went to UCSC. She occasionally can be heard uttering "Vivat Slug."

I can see it now, every group of KKK members in the country will be running around with their fighting whities Ts.... Man, for a group trying to end the stereotype of being ignorant drunks, these American Indians really weren't very bright.

They were trying to ridicule a white southern accent much like some of us ridicule ebonics.

I know, just poking a little fun at the Kings english.

"Walk in someone else's shoes, and then you can make a judgment," said Ryan White, 22, a team player and member of the Mohawk Nation.

###########################################################

Ummm...Maybe Ryan should change his name....not very PC...for someone who talks the PC game.

Had a patient in the hospital by the name of Whitekiller....Didn't bother me in the least....of course I'm part Indian. Hehehehe......

And let's not forget Wilma Mankiller.....Surprised more of the N.O.W. gang...don't adopt that name for themselves..!!Ha!!

Never ceases to amaze me..what people get their feathers fluffed up about.......

This is too weird. TexasAggie79 posted the same story on the other forum. I'm so confused that this all makes sense. That's scary.

How about the 'Surrendering Frenchies'?

No, it's "Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys."

"Maybe they're actually honoring Communists."

Some clever supporter of the "Fightin' Reds" should silk screen onto a t-shirt one of those Soviet patriotic posters from WW II. That would be sufficiently confusing to all concerned.

And they could get an oversized papier-mache Lenin head for their mascot. Their cheerleaders could be guys in drag a la the East German Olympic team.

"Walk in someone else's shoes, and then you can make a judgment,"

(from Jack Handey, I think) "Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. That way, he'll be a mile away and you'll have his shoes."
