I stepped on one of those barefoot once, up in the woods in Oregon...
Slid for miles downhill after that.

The UC Irvine mascot is the Anteater. Just a step up the food chain from the Banana Slug.

Well, I just sent them an offer for me to do a bid on these. We will see what happens.

If you produce any, let me know. Thanks.

I know i've seen that logo before, I think it was on a gag postcard. I bet these guys are in violation of copyright law. Now wouldn't that be a hoot.

"Every thang's gonna be all white !" Using a 50's style white guy in understandable, but why print the motto using ebonics...?

It appears I'm a little slow on the uptake...at least we were thinking the same thing...

If you notice sports teams are named after "tough fighters or animals". You don't see the Detroit Bunny Rabbits, you see the Detroit Lions. There are a reason that you see team names like Bulldogs, Spartans, Wolverines, Fighting Irish, Celtics, Trojans, Jaguars, Lions, Tigers, Grizzlies, Bears, Chippewas, Hurons, Eagles, Timberwolves, Highlanders, Seminoles, and Vikings. You don't see teams named after the rabbits, mice, rats, squirrels, French, peaceniks, and the like. ROTFLMAO! Good One!

How do you explain the Ducks then?

Hey, I've seen ducks fight over food. Those birds can be aggressive.

An added commentary:

I happen to be very familiar with that school :) There's a interesting part of this that isn't being discussed, however. Team captain Solomon Little Owl, the guy who started this mess, isn't just "director of Native American Student Services at UNC". At 29, he's either still a student at UNC (he was listed as a student as far back as 1998), or only recently took the position of director on campus, which is a paid position through the university. Local residents in Greeley (UNC) and Eaton (the high school) all happen to like the Eaton Reds' mascot, who's apparently been a part of the school for almost a century. The only protest or criticism levelled against the school began early this year, by Native Americans doctorate students and others at the neighboring Greeley's UNC campus (the two campuses are a few miles apart). From what I've gathered, there's maybe a half-dozen people, none of whom are residents of Eaton, who are protesting.
"Walk in someone else's shoes, and then you can make a judgment"
I say "If a man forces you to walk a mile in his moccasins, walk two miles. That way, not only are you an extra mile away from him when you finish, but now you have his shoes as well."

Oh darn, but I can't stop laughing at all this! Anyway, my husband and I were talking it over and here's the semi-silly ideas we came up with:
The Fightin' Reds should change their mascot to a Red Hammer and Sickle and maybe a clenched fist....just to show The Fightin' Whities they can relate to their problems.
The three NEW YORK FIRE MEN who raised the flag at the WTC should copyright their own t-shirt with the photo of the flag being rasied and underneath have a caption like "The Fightin' Whities."
Seriously though, The Fightin' Whities team should cut out the pc whining and crack open those books. If The Fightin' Whities want to get ahead in life; they need to get a good education first.

I love America.

We lived in Eugene when they had the old Duck. That was bad enough even though we loved the U of O. Disney's Duck seemed ridiculous to us at the time. We kept wondering why any team would want Donald Duck as their logo. But as with all things, you get used to it.

The Fightin' Whities expect to charge about $20 for their shirts and will donate all profits to a Native American cause that has yet to be determined, Van Iwarden said. The University of Northern Colorado Native American Beer and Party Fund.
