Well I'm mad and I'm angry, and maybe that's why I can't think of an appropriate response. While all of us were prasing him for how he was dealing with the war on terror, Bush passes this Amnesty Bill, something that not even the sneaky Bill Clinton would do. This is one of the worse Bills to pass through Congress, it will hurt us in many ways, and ten years from now we will still be feeling it's effects.

Bush has, without a doubt in my mind, sold us out for the Hispanic vote. He sold us out because he can take our vote for granted (who will we vote for Al Gore?). Is he wrong? What do we do when the Republicans stop looking out for our interests? Is it time for a new party, or do we work within the party and try to root out the Republicans In Name Only (of which there are many)?

Why is it so important to sway latino voters?

Latins are pretty conservative as a group and will be happy to vote GOP as long as we give them a reason to.

The GOP screwed up with the black population and needs to counter the 10-1 trouncing they get from them in every election.

Thanks for the comments Jim. I understand where you're coming from, although I disagree. I don't think you're compeletely happy with agenda that is being passed through the Republican controlled House. That's why I can't understand what you think a Republican Senate will buy you.

If Gore was in there right now, at least some of his agenda would be opposed by Republicans. But now that Bush has pushed certain liberal agenda items, nobody is left to oppose them. Personally, I shudder to think what will happen when a far left of center party controls all three houses.

The issues I've touched on are far left of center. Bush will be able to ram through anything he desires. And from what I've seen of his desires, I'm not looking forward to the prospects.

I do not support amnesty for anyone BUT, 99.9% of this bill has absolutely NOTHING to do with the part that extends the time to apply BTW did you find the part that identified the untold millions that you have been spouting off about or, are you ready to concede that part?. This bill is NOT a blanket amnesty for all illegals as most posters here seem to assume. Go back to post #131 by deport, and read the bill. I didn't understand all that I read, but the current 'amnesty' appears to be simply an extension of the deadlines for alien's who's visas have expired, to register with the INS. They have to file a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponser such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty.This puts their name on record while they wait for a hearing with the INS to have their citizenship status reviewed. It is not a guarantee of citizenship, and has no effect whatsoever on the thousands who slipped over the border without paperwork.

Having read a majority of the postings here, I am dismayed that so many FReepers are ready to jump ship over an issue they didn't bother to get the facts on before plunging into a rant.

When Bush has a photo-op, with "former illegals" on the WH steps, who do you think will be beside him? Daschle, Biden and any other Democrat that can wrangle an invite. Of course GW being so gracious, will want to share credit for this amnesty bill. SEC. 306. RESTRICTION ON ISSUANCE OF VISAS TO NONIMMIGRANTS FROM COUNTRIES THAT ARE STATE SPONSORS OF INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM.

(a) IN GENERAL- No nonimmigrant visa under section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(15)) shall be issued to any alien from a country that is a state sponsor of international terrorism unless the Secretary of State determines, in consultation with the Attorney General and the heads of other appropriate United States agencies, that such alien does not pose a threat to the safety or national security of the United States. In making a determination under this subsection, the Secretary of State shall apply standards developed by the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Attorney General and the heads of other appropriate United States agencies, that are applicable to the nationals of such states.

He could circumvent the Rats giving blanket amnesty, by ordering the immediate deportation of any and all peoples in this country illegaly. As for any citizens born of illegals, they will be permitted to stay, we can open orphanages or put them up for adoption. I'm betting that the people will take their kids back home, or leave them with relatives in the State to take care of. When the Rats get back in power, they will have no amnesty to give, and will beat up the Republicans with the subject, but then again, they beat them up at every turn. My initial reaction is to vote for a third party candidate and hope if he gets enough votes, and it causes the Republicans to lose the presidency it will send them a message.

In 1994, Senator Ted Kennedy wrote an amendment to a bill about this that became law. The amendment added a question to the INS application, "Are you or have you ever been a terrorist within or outside of the United States?" Please check "yes*" or "no".

* = if you checked "yes", this will not necessarily deny your application.
