Tonight on the History Channel - 8-9 pm est.

Cover Up: Attack on the U.S.S. Liberty

On June 8, 1967, the intelligence ship U.S.S. Liberty, stationed off the Sinai Peninsula during the Six-Day War, was attacked by unmarked jets and later by unmarked torpedo boats. In all, 34 men were killed and 171 wounded. Deep into the attack, the captain and crew realized that the aggressor was their ally, Israel, who claimed they couldn't identify the ship as American. We examine crewmembers' contentions that the attack was intentional and that both governments covered up the true details. TV PG

"Israel apologized for the tragedy and paid nearly $13 million in humanitarian reparations to the United States and to the families of the victims in amounts established by the U.S. State Department. The matter was officially closed between the two government by an exchange of diplomatic notes on December 17, 1987."

Click here for the Jews' take on it.

A tragedy and I do hold Israel responsible.

I think the democrats over at DU think they finally have something to make conservatives mad. Sorry, but I don't see it that way. Bush is rallying the world behind the scenes. The outcome of all this is going to be peace.

I think so too. But it won't be enough for the Jewish left. They'll find something Bush did wrong regarding Israel. I really believe many of them would trade Israel for Democrat control of all three branches of government.

Was it a policy decision on the part of LBJ that he had to use Israel as a surrogate, or was he blackmailed into ignoring Israel's attack by confidants like Abe Fortas who had the goods on him?

Or the Christian Left. Nobody howled louder when Bush went to Bob Jones U. The Left is the Left.

So just to clarify...do you agree that Pollard should spend the rest of his natural life in prison?

I know that RCW21001 has been waiting patiently for your response to this question...I am also interested in your response. Pray tell.

A lot has happened since then, and it is not relevant to the current situation at all.

There have been nearly 35 years for either government to punish the guilty parties, or at least to conduct an honest investigation. That has not been done. That makes it relevant today, in my book.

Remember this Larry? The Elian Gonzalez Case

'The United Methodist Church General Board of Church and Society has been asked to clarify the relationship between GBCS and the fund to pay for legal representation by Gregory Craig, the attorney representing Mr. Juan Miguel Gonzalez, father of Elian Gonzalez.

The executive committee of The General Board of Church and Society agreed to establish a fund to receive voluntary contributions to pay the costs of ensuring that Juan Miguel Gonzalez is fairly represented in the U.S. Courts. This decision followed a request by the Cuban Council of Churches (of which The Methodist Church of Cuba is a member) to assist in securing legal counsel for Juan Miguel Gonzalez for equal representation under the law in the U.S. Courts.'

The Left is the Left. What can you do...

The Christian left doesn't have the megaphones the Jewish left has. And Christians do not march in almost perfect lock step.

So what? The Clintonesque "everybody does it" makes it right? We are talking about Israel here. The Jewish left is the group which is going to scream the loudest over whatever Bush does. The Christian left doesn't have the nuclear weapon the Jewish left does: calling anyone who tells them to shut up antisemites.

You can bet that if it hasn't been done by now, it will never be done.

Like I said, Israel screwed up, big time. I think it was intentional, and there should have been consequences. The Liberty should not have been attacked even if Israel thought it was sending info to Egypt. (Remember, LBJ was not trustworthy. You can bet we would not know if LBJ had been covertly backing Egypt.)

But none of that changes the facts today. Israel is fighting the same barbarians we are. I'll pick Israel over Arafat every time.

Christians do not march in lock step. Socialists do not get 80% of the Christian vote, decade after decade. Last time a Republican presidental candidate got a plurality of the Jewish vote was in 1920. But that was only because a socialist, Eugene Debs, split the Democrat vote.
