If you enter the country illegally, collect welfare, foodstamps and medicaid, you should not be rewarded with legal status.

Offering legal status will FLOOD the UNITED STATES with so many people over the next few years our heads are going to spin.

I don't see how you can criticize Bush for not doing what he said. In the campaign he never said he was against criminal aliens. In fact, if you just looked at his record as governor it was clear that he supported them.

Even on this amnesty, if you parsed what he said properly, you should have expected this. If people don't parse every word of every statement, and just hear what they want to hear, they are always going to be disappointed.

You'd think that Dubya would have learned after September 11th, but I guess not.

What frosts me, is that now that it's our turn to govern Hatch will be happy as a clam to back Bush's signing of 245(i). The very things we slammed the Democrats for trying to pull off just a few years ago, we're willing to back now.

In amazement I stand here and watch fellow Freepers who simpy refuse to recognize this reality. When Bush signs, he'll be doing something even Bill Clinton didn't have the family jewels to push through.

Like it or not, accept it or not, the Republican party is adopting the Democrat's polices one after another. Eh, when will people wake the ---- up?

Here we are, running right up against election time, and we are being held hostage because the President of the United States wants to grant amnesty to up to 4 million illegal aliens, people who haven't played by the rules, haven't paid the price, who literally want to jump over those who have played by the rules and who belong here--this blanket amnesty all for the purpose of politics.

He still does.

but the big question is why?

Yep. Mr. Schippers will have to write another book. He can call it Sellout II - In the Belly of Hypocrisy.

Those who defend illegal immigration are supporting the very policies that are dear to the heart of the American Communist Party and the AFL/CIO. Now there's a goal for ya. Wouldn't you think this might ring one warning bell? Evidently not.

"One significant difference is that between the United States and Canada, illegal contraband, drugs -- and terrorists -- move in both directions, the report found. Another challenge is that many immigrants from South Korea and [ Mexico ] -- who don't need visas to enter Canada -- like to use that country as a gateway to illegally enter the United States."

Darkness By Design For Amnesty Move
"At the precise directions of Mr. Bush — the House sneaked through a bill directly related to the student visa fiasco."

But deliberately cloaked in the bill — the first attempted passage was, in fact, to be by unrecorded vote — was the highly controversial Section 245(i) amendment to the immigration law, which allows "undocumented" immigrants (who, to employ plainer talk, are really illegal aliens) to immediately get permanent residency. All they need to do is pay the federal government $1,000 and have a close relative or employer sponsor them.

This decision gives people who come here illegally the ability to skirt American law, to move to the front of the line because they have skirted that law, and to avoid any real check on their past. Without it, they would have to return to their own countries, apply legally, probably wait up to 10 years and go through at least the minimal check of experienced visa and consular officers in the American Embassies.

The fact that this entire scenario was cloaked in the secrecy and deception of a spy novel — it was included in the day's "suspension calendar," which is generally reserved for noncontroversial matters — demonstrates the degree to which the administration is trying to advance its idea of amnesty for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens in America, perhaps up to 9 million."

"We’re going to go after all crime, and we’re going to make sure people get punished for the crime."
George W. Bush - Presidential Debate at Wake Forest University - Oct 11, 2000

"It is not possible to 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed' while deliberately violating the law.."
John Ashcroft - Aug. 1, 1998 (Washington Post).
