I'm probably even more of an anomaly than you - I'm a Purdue grad and a big Bobby Knight fan!

BTW I would believe Steve Alford before you!

Believe whoever you want. All I'm saying is that Knight treats every game like a championship game, and that's a bad formula for winning the actual championship game. A coach needs to recognize that through the course of a season his/her team will compete in less-than-prime conditions, and go through ups and downs. It's the coach's job to help the team keep an even keel and direct the team's energy toward doing the things it needs to get better. Recognizing this, a team will be mentally ready to compete when it absolutely needs to be, as opposed to mentally exhausted.

And to think what you describe doesn't happen in most programs. The truth is it does. The hiposrisy of most all Knight detractors is what gets me. Sidelines and games in college and pro sports is nothing but a string of expletives.

Haston would have went pro reguardless of Knight. And for those that think Knight was so bad why would they think Haston would have stayed? It doesn't fit. The truth is the deal Felling was making for the tape is what really blowed it up. But we only to look at Knight's bad behavior an give a pass to everyuone elses?

Lets not forget why Mike Davis is at Indiana in the first place. Knight got him the job as an assistant. Knight is the reason he is at Indiana. And don't forget the players that told the admin. that they would leave Indiana if Davis was not the coach. That put a little presure on Brand.

BTW May would not have gotten much playing time. To many 1,2, and 3s allready signed letters and team now. I think he has his eyes set on NBA. And if you want to know the truth i think Haston should have stayed and Jefferies should stay AT LEAST another year.

What a chickensh*t! Knight is a psychopath, so why is this a surprise?

It adds to his "aura" with his sycophants.

I am a little peaved with Knight's involvement in players and recruits. Funny all of them seemed to do what is NOT in IU's best interest. After Haston got drafted in the first round, I conceded that it was not a stupid decision, but would have made this year even more fun.

I hope Bobby had a good reason for not showing. Thanks to his absence, we O'Reilly viewers had to endure a double dose of Rosie-visit post mortems. Where's the Emetrol?

Funny all of them seemed to do what is NOT in IU's best interest

So all of the players who called for Davis to be their coach or they would transfer , WAS not in IU best interest? ie Dane Fife was the most vocal and he was the most outspoken ,for Knight.

Therefore being peaved with Knight doesn't fit.

And I don't believe May's decision was made with any real concern for IU but only him and his playing time and how that would relate to his NBA career.

ask Joe Torre.

or Bill Walsh

Joe Torre? Are you friggin Kidding me? Tell me about St.Joes Glory Days managing the Cards....60% of his success is having the owner with the deepest pockets, and commitment to winning, and No salary Cap.

And for Every Bill Walsh there Is a Vince Lombardi.

To a certain extent I agree. That said, Torre clearly gets his team ready to play their best ball in October. It isn't by accident that happens every year.

Based on the comments here, I wouldn't recommend watching O'Reilly if you're hoping to see Bob Knight. ROFL.

LOL! That page you linked had this!:

Barney Frank Goes for Gold

Graphic illustration by Rodger Shultz

It's not exactly a winter sport, but that didn't stop Barney Frank (F-Mass) from sponsoring a bill to make his favorite pastime, House page wrestling, an Olympic event.

Knight seems to treat every game as the end-all. With certain groups this can work, but over 30 seasons he would be more successful to go a bit easier.

Considering that he is the most successful coach over the last 30 years that's quite a moutful. Second most successful is probably Coach K: trained by Knight, and also possessor of a foul temper much of the time. Guess he could have been more successful if he just mellowed out, huh?

Lots of people buy into the media hype about Knight. I followed IU for 30 years and became a Texas Tech fan this year. Watch in a couple of years and see where the two programs are. Of course, no matter how much success he has at Texas Tech, there will be those helpful sideline coaches telling him how it should be done.

I could have swore that I heard O'Reilly say that Knight was " a liar and a man without honor" for his "no show". This could be the start of the Main Event for the next FOX Celebrity boxing special...
