No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

All of the recent changes to FR have lessened its value to me. I don't like the separate forums thing, and I definately do not like the overhaul to the site that confronts me this morning. I'm not sure what motivates such changes or who wants them, but I don't think many of those asked to contribute recently were consulted.

Not smart.

I thought "This really, truly sucks." and assumed it would get buried in negative feedback and die a deserved death.

ME TOO! I took one look at the beta and said to myself 'dont go there'.

Oh, boy. You had to ask. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. But go to topics. Pick one that interests you and click on it. When the topic comes up on the screen, look to the sidebar on the left. In the middle or so in the sidebar it should tell yopu whether or not you are subscribed to the topic, and if you're not and would like to it tells you to click there to add the topic.

when you get to the topic page, you have to click on a topic that you want to add to your sidebar. When you get to THAT page, there is the link to subscribe, i.e., add it to your sidebar.

After you hit topics, click on the one you want. Look over on the left RIGHT BELOW THE ICON WITH THE FLAG ON IT FOR THE 9-11 THING. CLICK IT.

At the risk of starting a flame war, I wanted to tell you that what you've done here is fantastic! I've taken the time to browse through all the links and pages, and it's beautiful. Love the new sidebar option!! Thank you.

Well were not going to flame you cause you like the new FR. There is only a few people trying to start something here and they like it as well. I don't see any sidebar option. I have been looking for some time now and can't find it. I just want to know how you set it up.

remember when the McDonalds Trainees went from brown paper hats to blue paper hats?

I didn't know McDonalds did training.
I thought their people came to McDonalds already not speaking English.

The fonts display the same size as before on mine.

I like the new look.

And I love hearing all the yowls and yelps.

Go to the page http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/topics. You will find everything there that is familiar to you, as well as the procedure for setting the side bar. Try it. You'll like it!

Computers are fine, but sitting in the comfort of my family-room in my favorite chair, watching picture in picture and FReeping at the same time on a LARGE TV screen is the best of both worlds. I love my WEB TV.

I don't like the new format.

So I subscribed to the "Breaking News" sidebar, only to find that the sidebar displays only 5 articles at a time.

The bottom line is that this change has significantly reduced the usefulness of this website.

Nobody asked for this change, so why was it done?

If someone voices their displeasure they are automatically a 'whiner'? Okay, fine. There are nice little labels for people who incessantly suck up, too.

Apologies if the term whiner disturbed you. Perhaps it doesn’t apply in your particular case. I simply bristle when two men who have devoted a significant portion of their finances, time and energy to developing and maintaining this site are subjected to the _____ (fill in the blank with descriptive noun of your choosing) that I am reading on this thread.

If some of you who are uncomfortable with the present format would simply take a little time to get used to the newness of it, maybe you would find that a lot of the negative comments might better have been left unsaid. (Or maybe not. There is surely room for improvement in any re-vamping, but a nanosecond after its implementation is no time to start issuing criticisms or complaints.)

I plan to private reply Jim Robinson regarding both positive and negative reactions to the change, but not until I am totally familiar with the new system.

I am not necessarily talking about you (your comments were not of the type to which I am referring), but people on this thread who have instantaneously begun complaining (some simply because their heretofore normal routine has been changed) smack of immaturity (and, in the particular case of this forum, ingratitude).

Contrary to the opinion of the majority on this thread, change can be a good thing….if one goes to the trouble of trying to comprehend the improvements made thereby.

(/end of suck up....an inappropriate term, from my perspective. But I defend your right to label it such. :)
