Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

It's simple ... nobody is forcing you to lay on a bed of nails, nobody is forcing you to stick a screw driver into your left eye, nobody is forcing you to be drawn and quartered, and nobody is forcing you to endure the Bataan Death March torture that is the new Free Republic. Log off, and don't come back.
Again, something so shrill suggests you haven't good arguments, so you must have loud ones. If you are John Robinson or Jim Robinson and wish me to log off and not come back, please authenticate your identity and I am out of here. Otherwise, I will continue laughing at your bitchy smugness.

I guess this new format means my house will be cleaner, my grass will be greener, and I will get more work done at the office. This is not worth my time anymore. Reminds me of one of the psychiatrists in our clinic who had a patient big in an advertising agency wanting to meet with us to show what he could do for our stuffy clinic. I reminded the partner that new patients were waiting months to see any of us, that apparently stuffiness was fine.
Suspect soon there will blaring music and flashing stuff when I click on FR. I am unmotivated and don't have the time to learn the new system, and even if so someone will decide to "improve" it again.

Also, we were able to search within a forum for a word or phrase that appeared in either "replies and articles" or "articles only." For example, I could type "ed" in the search box and all the replies and articles posted containing the word "education" would be listed, with the most recent post on top. Please bring back this option. (If that option is available, I can't find it). Thanks!

I too followed the simple directions, and now "breaking news" is on my right sidebar as before....I love FR, and welcome the ability to customize. But then my VCR isnt blinking 12:00 am either.......

"The scrolling is killing me......my head hurts within minits I really liked the simple,easy layout of the old format." Yeah, I do prefer (whenever possible) an all text format. Graphics are nice but it always reduces the usable area of any html page.

I just realized that in my previous post I didn't comment on the new FR format. I like it and will learn how to navigate around the site.
Suggestion: Is there a way to comment on the survey? For example: In today's survey, the survey is slightly flawed. CFR has a severance clause in it. If the Supremes find a section of CFR unlawful, they can throw out that portion of the law and still allow the rest to become law. Therefore, in the survey, I voted that CFR will pass, but mentally reserved the fact portions will be thrown out.

What! No poem? We could use some satire, unless this beta thing is all part of a good friday drama of dying before FR's resurrection.

I agree this is very confusing. It takes a long time to sift through all the subjects. The breaking news sidebar was very useful for a quick view of the latest events. I have been a reader for two years and would like to have the old format back. Why fix something that was not broken?

the new layout is just fine!

At first blush, I don't care for the new format.
The thing I like the least is the division of posts into multiple forms. At a minimum, I think there should be an option to Read All Forums.
