This is awful!

No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

It's not taking any longer to load on my computer.... and I'm using a dial up, with a 56K modem. The changes were a bit of a shock at first, but once I found out how to get breaking news back on my sidebar, I figured I'd live.

Well said! I've been lurking for over three years before finally signing up this year, and I applaud and thank you both Jim & John for your continued, selfless service.

You are very dramatic. This is Easter, there are compelling forces of joy and life that will always mean more than a software modification.

Well joanie, I'm not a whiner. If something doesn't work for me I just don't utilize. This will cull the membership.

When Freepers that are already "in the system" react like this, my concern is how the new format will catch and hold new Consevatives coming to FR for the first time.

The Internet is filled with clutter. Only sites that catch the eye and hold it succeed.

As others have pointed out, Drudge Report is a success because of it's simplicity. Even the most computer-phobic individual with an IQ five degrees above room temperature can navigate it to it's full potential right off the bat.

Those of us who have been around FR for a while will take the time to learn the new software, customize our settings and do just fine. New viewers may give the new hi-tech FR a five second view and move on.

When I first cane to FR, what caught my eye was the mix of posts of all types of Conservative topics all on one screen. After living on the Left Coast for so long, it was like walking into a smorgasbord after starving for 10 years.

The other thing that caught my eye was the "Breaking News" sidebar that made FR replace Yahoo News as my daily news site. The "Breaking News" sidebar was almost always way ahead of the news in comparison to Yahoo or other sites due to the efforts of Freepers to scour the entire Internet and be first to post an important story.

I would suggest that the first entry into FR be made on the old, simple format. After registering, the new Freeper should be given a month or so to get familiar with the site. The newbie can then be given instructions to move into the new format. Ample training in the "HTML Bootcamp" style should be provided before and during the transition.

By that time, the newbie should be hooked.

As in fishing, if you try to set your hook too soon, you will lose the fish.

Is that why she was banned?

Hell, I would have promoted Classyblueeyedblonde for that.

...SuperAmerica put in a new ATM last week, with all kinds of touch screen scariness and discombobulated steps. I fought my way through the fear and doubt.

Never, ever, not again use an ATM.

1. The gubmit will have a record of your transaction immediately, know you are not home, go there and steal all your guns...and your dog.

2. They will have a very recent photograph of you, your fingerprints from the screen and your optical bio recognition. They will also know you are neither at home or work and will immediately go to your place of business and interview some of your colleagues to determine if you have made any radical statements concerning 1993-2001.

3. And, finally. Going to a cash machine is indicative of an irrational and dysfunctional personality profile. The gubmint will see this and have the excuse to have you committed ... and to pay for it they will sell all the guns they confiscated...and start breeding your dog.

I LIKE the new format...VERY easy on the eyes...but probably a lot harder to recognize somebody who wants to hit me...then again I could always change my preferences.

I hope this doesn't mean that John will now be free to annoy the anti-freepers. We were just settling down to only laughing at Mochajoke and the Maggott.

Let me lay this out simple and clear. Every one of you whining a-holes better have thrown a few bucks into the kitty during the last fund raiser. One of the reasons why Jim and John have to work their software interface magic is because there are MANY MANY freeloaders here who suck up resources and don't give back a thing. The demand grows, the network resources are stretched, the costs rise and the equipment investments are evaluated ...

Never mind, it's none of your business. Everything John and Jim do is with the FR users in mind. EVERYTHING. It's simple ... nobody is forcing you to lay on a bed of nails, nobody is forcing you to stick a screw driver into your left eye, nobody is forcing you to be drawn and quartered, and nobody is forcing you to endure the Bataan Death March torture that is the new Free Republic. Log off, and don't come back.

Please.

Who died and left YOU the God of Free Republic, to banish those who disagree with you? Or those who disapprove of current poorly conceived and executed changes in format!? You are getting a bit too full of yourself!! Visit the bathroom and relieve us all of the pressure.

Teach, we may have to send you out on an FR training r road show!!! First Hour ... login. LOL This will blow over, and honestly, I have no vested interest in kissing JohnRobs bum ... but I have a sneaking suspicion that when fully explored, the new interface will deliver more utility, more functionality and more kooky shenanigans ... at less cost. Happy Easter!

Well I have been VERY specific..I will add one more "improvement" Offer a choice to those that use FR the OLD FR with NO special forums (a Universal forum) in the OLD format and the" new improved" beta divided format..the choice of format could be on the home page..

This ia awful..I can find nothing I like in the new format..so I do not know where to start..loading time..ability to read easily, no find in forum..and the full show on your self search page...I am afraid to think what changes will be made in the mail part..The division of the forums will make activism impossible..I liked the old FR ..is that specific enough?

From my observation over the past couple of years, Jim & John have improved and modified this site without selfish motivation. I'm with you on this.

HAPPY EASTER!

I've been playing with it for about 30 minutes now and I'm already getting used to it. I'm beginning to like the new look.

If I would have seen this thread 15 minutes ago, I had a different opinion.
