This is awful!

No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

I don't like Beta but seem to be stuck in it. How do I get out? Serious question.

Assessment: Beta is style over substance. Not good.

Larry, you've been around here a while, I respect you greatly, the Robs wouldn't embark on a forum restructuring without careful consideration for the business case, and equal loyalty to us!

Thanks for the kind comments and the same back at ya! I have the same Mac I signed on to FR four years ago so maybe it is me. There are other sites which jam me up as FR does now but they are very few and far between. Didn't mean to be critical, I know Jim and John work darn hard. I'm concerned about the impact FR will have on politics in the furture more than my own ability to read news, comment or play around. No way I see we could organize the hugely successful protests we did nationwide during the Florida recount with this new format.

I did it-- I hate being stateless, but I hate that mess up at the of the page even worse-- distracting. Thanks.

grow up already!

I have. If you'd bothered to read the 20-30 other posts I've placed in this thread in the last seven hours you'd have read that I (and many other detractors) have mastered the new format quite well thank you very much.

This has nothing to do with "learning new tricks." The old board was elegant in its simplicity. This reminds me of all the new redesigned utility bills that were supposed to be easier to read, but actually were a maze of complexity. The basic principle of visual design is to move the eye to the most important spot on the page. Here we have competing visual images. If this were the opening page it would be okay. But if the flag and sidebar reduce the all important thread information to the middleground, it becomes tiring to stare at. If FreeRepublic wants to imitate Yahoo, AOL, etc., that is its decision, ok. But it must remember that it became wildly popular because it had the most ingenious, simple, easy-to-read format on the internet. The ironic thing is that the new set-up looks amateurish unlike the old one which was pretty slick, IMHO.

Well, maybe if we snivel & whine enough, the big wheels will throw us some 'find in forum' cheese.

Keith Tkacuk needs a lobotomy.

The whole team could use one!

Never mind....I think the operation has already taken place.

Face it, it's here for a reason. What reason, I don't know. We may as well master it.

Amen. We have yet to hear from the Robinsons, and I am sure many of the issues that have been raised this morning will be addressed. I doubt this software is set in stone; there is tweaking galore to come based on suggestions from participants in this website. Over the past few weeks, there have been many postings from people who have abandoned the Republican Party and/or President Bush based on his support for amnesty, CFR, tariffs, and such. Other posters have derided them for their "knee-jerk" reactions. I hope those same posters keep that in mind with regards to the changes we are facing at Free Republic today.

Louie, I watched that game against Chicago ... no way, you don't that penalty there. Chicago scored, Keith was sent to the "cooler" for a game, and the Wild beat the Blues at home. How did Nieuwendyk escape their grab ... he'd be the differnce for your club.

I have a cable modem. FR's new format loads a bit more slowly than the old format did. I have a suggestion for some of you who want to maximize speed of page loading: Try Opera. Opera is significantly faster loading pages than Internet Explorer 6. Also, Opera allows you to tap "+" to enlarge a page's font, and then "-" to reduce it again-- no going to "view." I have an add blocker to deal with its adds, as I haven't purchased the browser.
