No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

rear: correct - mom's doggie on a month's visit

Gold, Jim and John need to understand and develop a profitable financial model for this place ... one major benefit of the "cover charge" is the up front cash flow of a understandable income stream, and the information neccesary to invest in network, computing plannable network requirement. If 8000 people pay $25 each, that's $200,000 up front, and there can be a downsizing of the infrastructure and network expenses. It's plannable.

And, I'm just surly enough to expect EVERYONE here to throw a $20 into the mail for the services and value realized here. $20 bucks??? There's no excuse for not contributing, but we know the numbers.

I don't like individuals who use anothers assets to insinuate bile and resentment and cynicism into the prevailing discourse. You got a problem, that's why we are here. Let's identify it thouroughly ... ok, that's enough. Don't nobody come back until you've thought out a solution and an action plan we all can employ. Otherwise ... don't bother.

I'm outta here ... have a wonderful holiday sir! Peace, love, sacrifice, commitment, enlightenment ... all the good stuff comes together round this time. Regards!

Kidnapped by the evil one in PA

Do you have visitation privileges?

Here's my coonhound mix and Caique:

Okay, whiners and defenders! It's time to re-dub this lugubrious thread The FReeper Pet Parade....

To bed....long drive upstate to my sisters at the crack o' dawn.

Happy Easter, Tom (and all)

You're talking about seconds, it is taking " webbies " minutes , though it does seem a tad faster right now, for everything to load . I'm reading a book, as I now wait for loading. I AM NOT KIDDING !

When the change was first instituted, my web unit kept shutting off, becuase it's on a timer ( and NO, I have NO control over that ! ) , and it took too long . THAT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, AND NO , IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF SOMETHING DYSFUNCTIONAL IN THE WEB UNIT !

Have a great weekend. =]

( I still say you lose people in the long run by not allowing them to see what they'd be buying first. Charge for registration & posting privledges, but not access. =])

Gold ... I'm not gone yet ... absolutely, only posting privileges would require a donation. It's not going to happen in the near term anyway, but I agree with you ... I love the fact you can go over to DU or Bartcop and they are discussing something happening here! But Gold ... let's turn this remarkable asset back into an educational and citizenry engine of positive, strategic change. The destroyers are suffocating the forum.

I feel like Alice in Wonderland, I have followed the White Rabbit down the hole.

I agree. This really sucks. I'm still trying to find "latest posts". What was wrong with the lay-out before? Are the people who run FR now civil service empolyees who have to "fix" everything that ain't broken, just to be doing something?

The worst thing is the announcements, some people in Texas write pages on pages and take up the whole screen.

I am going to move my location to Eastern Lower Slovabonia.

Partial quote from a message by Free Republic founder JIM ROBINSON:
Just got home a little while ago and have been trying to catch up on reading all the complaints about our new face lift. Well, this particular email caught my eye and thought I'd post it to see if we can lighten up the atmosphere just a bit (I got a chuckle out of it anyway).
Subject: FREE Non Surgical Face Lift in a Bottle!

-- snip --

-- snip --

"By the way, we will be working over the weekend and the next few days, to try to make the new FR face lift a little less shocking. It will all be back to (almost) normal soon.

Hang in there.

Have received thousands of comments, emails and FRmail complaints and compliments today (running about 10 to 1 in the complaint department).
Will not be able to answer all (or even most), but we will do what we can to make things better.

Thanks,
Jim

Let's follow the lead of FR's founder, and MAKE THIS FORMAT CHANGE WORK!
We can do this.

What do you mean by " ALL THIS TIME " ? I keep telling you, and everyone else, that the loading time , when my webtv unit isn't shutting off completely, is taking an extremely looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Sheep imitations ? Is THAT the best you have to offer ? LOL

I downloaded Cookie Pal [kburra.com] . I am a minimalist - don't like toys & playing with shareware, but this program has been a Godsend. It's small, zero bugs, and allows you to see every individual cookie offered and select "accept," "reject," "always accept", "always reject" and "reject all from this domain". After a few days surfing, you will have created your own custom filters.

That sounds very much like the functionality that is built into the Mozilla browser that I use. It is has been a useful feature at times. Unfortunately, I've found that I want some sites to be cookie-enabled at times and cookie-disabled at other times. Since my list of cookie-disabled sites has become very, very long, it became too much trouble to scroll the long list and re-enable cookies for a particular site. It's easier to simply leave cookies disabled all the time and turn them back on as needed.

I have the source code for Mozilla, and I've been wanting to add a toggle button for cookies to the browser's toolbar. I have yet to find a day with enough free hours to implement such a luxury though. I believe it would be the least aggravating method yet for dealing with cookies, and I'm somewhat amazed that browsers don't come with such a convenient button.
