"Well-behaved women..." Opinions wanted.

On a recent visit to my brother's house in Charlotte, NC, I saw the following on my sister-in-law's car:

My question is exactly what does the "Well-behaved women rarely make history" statement suppose to mean? Any opinions on this out there?

I gave birth in water less than 2 weeks ago at home

I'm curious, how did your health care provider handle it?

There is no way this is a womans vehicle...the bumpers aren't all smashed in.

I had to laugh - even though I have a Windstar, too, and it has no dents. It doesn't have any stooooopid liberal bumper stickers either.

I use Type O Negative to do the serious cage rattling. Then I throw in a VNV Nation cd and watch everyone turn around with a "WTF" look on their face.Everybody I work with thinks I am nuts.... they blow you a lot less flak on a day to day basis that way!

I'm sure it varies by companies, but most won't touch water birth with a 39 1/2 foot pole. But other than that, we don't have health insurance right now, my husband is self-employed. I have heard home birth is covered in some states by some companies, not sure which though.

What's referred to as "lay-midwifery" isn't recognized in my state, and a lay midwife *can* be prosecuted depending on locale, but they are definitely affordable compared to a hospital birth. Hundreds instead of thousands.

Funny story. My roommate and me in college were looking to start a Metallica cover band. Me on rhythm and him on lead. Needed a bass player and a drummer. Found em. We then proceeded to find open mics in town. Found a few, one right down the street from our home.

It was a blues/jazz bar! We decided we would go there for open mic, start blasting some Metallica and get kicked off stage before we finished the first song.

We got on stage and I pulled out my big black Gibson Explorer and people started looking at us funny. We were dressed like metal heads too. I go up to the mic and asked "what do you guys want to hear?" They yelled some stuff. I replied... "It don't matter. SO F**KING WHAT" and kicked into it!

They place went wild. I couldnt believe it. We didnt have a second song planned! So i turned to the guys and quietly said "four horsemen." Then went to the mic and yelled "Deal With The Four Horsemen!" After about 15 seconds into the song a guy comes running up in front of the stage and takes off his shirt! Turns around and points at his back. The guy had the four horsemen tattooed across his back from shoulder to shoulder!

After we finished Horse a hot chic comes up and asks to play with us! I asked what she wanted to play. She said she was just learning but wanted to play Roam. I wasnt gonna say no. She was pretty damn good. We then played Bellz and Seek & Destroy. After we finished Seek I threw in about 15 seconds of the beginning of Blackened and we quit.

After that we started playing there doing opening acts and full headline shows once a week. Mostly opening stuff for about an hour. Fun as hell. Especially since we went there with the intent to offend and get kicked out.

Margaret Thatcher

Condi Rice

Kay Baily Hutchison

Laura Bush

Barbara Bush

It may be the brash and bold that make history, but it's the ladies who lived a life in gentle kindness that we will always remember.
