"U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for talks with the foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan on the last leg of a Middle East tour that failed to secure an Israeli-Palestinian truce.

Amazing. The tour failed and most of the FReepers on this thread think it's great.

"Yea!!!! No peace in the east, kill all the MOOSLEMS! YEA!!!!"

Apparently many of you don't understand that "Wars Suck". Then again, you won't be the ones that die either, at least for a while.

And I also read that when Powell and Sharon emerged from their meeting that they were smiling and laughing. Arafat pissed, Sharon smiling....works for me. I'd say the trip was a success.

Does anyone know what Powell said to Arafat that got him mad?

Sharon has hammered the management team of the PA's the past two weeks

I've gotten that feeling from the news reports, too. The terrorist infrastructure has taken a hit.

You guys need to quit inhaling with comments like this one:

Sending Powell to hassle Israel has seriously undermined GWB's chances of being re-elected.......and the democrats know it.

The Rats are in such a panic, there are three trial ballons trying to convince McAinal to run as a Rat in 2004!

Let us know your market picks so we can do the opposite!

No, but one man's theory (I think he is a Congressman and is a doctor), is that Arafat is insane, or at least suffering from dementia or Alzheimers. So, who knows what set him off. Perhaps he was pissed that Powell didn't rescue him. Waaaaah!!

No no no ... The EU wobblies and the Arabs think "success" means getting Israel to stop winning against terrorists. They actually are believing the PA propoganda that this is some kind of occupation and *not* what it is: A concerted strike against the entire terrorist infrastructure of the PA.

Success for Freepers means the War against Terror move forward.

With Powell's trip, it does: He is confirming and assuring that Israel will pull out *after* they are done with their operation and that peace process betwee Israel and Arab nations (and not Arafat) can go forward. This will isolate the terrorist Arafat and in future lay groundwork for more moderate palestinian leadership who can negotiate a 'two state' solution and really mean it, not just be a weasel like arafat. That's the theory anyway. The reality is that putting terrorists in jail *anyplace* is a step forward towards peace.
