Senate Democrats yesterday barred the public from a committee meeting and vote on a land-use bill that opponents believe will impose federal standards on local zoning boards.

"This was no accident; this was a purposeful sham," said Mike Hardiman, spokesman for the American Land Rights Association, who lined up shortly after 8 a.m. to attend the 9:30 a.m. hearing in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. He said the senators were trying to pass an indefensible bill in secret.

And these are the same people who want Tom Ridge to testify, Cheney to provide everything he's ever written, and so on. They make me sick....

I'll second that!

Whether I stay here or not following College entirely depends on where the best place to go to make money is( and it may well be here since I am in Engineering and Mass is a hight tech state). Vermont and Connecticut are the two neighbors who have recently become more liberal than Mass IMHO( how did you guess LOL).

This form of federal "land grab" is one of the many reasons why one of the first things Bill Clinton in his first 90 days of office was to fire 83 sitting judges, and have them replaced with those of his own ilk. It made it easier to change the laws, corrupt the laws, misinterpret the laws, and abuse the laws, all under the guise of democracy. It also made it easier for the government to redistribute what they interpret as "corporate" wealth via litigation (e.g. tobacco law suits, Microsoft law suit, Enron, etc.)

Right now the justice system is being used by those who do not believe in free enterprise, individual rights, freedoms, or the constitution. In fact, we are now at a point in our society where we are automatically guilty until proven innocent. Blind justice? You bet.

Democrats have always manipulated individual rights by negating them altogether. It is easier to do this with the courts. And, they continue to do it behind closed doors with our tax dollars - to negate the freedoms our forefathers fought for. One of those freedoms is my right to my property - not their right to my property.

One constant factor is that idiots never learn. They never learn to stop messing with stuff and they never learn to stop voting for morons. The vast majority of environmental meddling has resulted in abject failure yet they keep on mucking it up. Too bad they resent intelligence but I guess it doesn't add to their political incomes.

The experience here in Texas is that they move down here and almost immediatly run for city council, burrow their way into everything from dog catcher to church deacon to elected office, then begin promoting their socialist nazi agenda.

A lawsuit ought to be filed on the basis of the violation of the Constitution against infringement on the private use of private property.

This kinda crap is what caused Waco and Oklahoma City. Way to go Congress. It seems that Reps are no different from the Dems they replaced in 1994.

The federal government is so far out of control that it's completely unrecognizable with our found father's vision.

The local planning commission is eagerly awaiting federal funds. Already they are taking land use inventory on their Geographical Information Systems. They are all asleep. The only planning that means anything is done by DOT, and DOT is run by engineers interested only in moving those vehicles. They are asleep, too.

With a little asphalt, Connecticut and Vermont would make damn fine parking lots.

Kinda bumpy in both places. Further, the other sponsor of this patently unconstitutional piece of garbage is from rhode Island not Connecticut. We have enough bull to put up with with Lieberman and Dodd and some of Cogressthings.

Anyone else for a federal land grab of 50% of New England? It's what we in the West have to live with, and I want equal protection under the law. Of course, they could return control of our States to us, and butt out of our business. Well now I live in New England and I am unalterably on the side of those who are besieged with the Federal land grabs in the West. We already have more than over regulation and state taking of land here in New England what I believe this legislation is intended to do is export the over regulation in New England to the rest of the union.

Every time someone in the Northeast farts, they think they've had a brainstorm or special revelation for the rest of ust to live by.This is false I farted this AM and do not claim it as a special revelation then again I am not a Liberal from this area.

It's ever more difficult not to wish them ill.

As long as you focus that wish towards those who seek to control you then go for it but leave those of us on your side here out of it. how would you like it if avery time Boxer or Fineswine came up with some of the wall idea everyone criticised everyone in Kalifornia.

Stay well - Stay safe - stay armed - Yorktown

For that matter, the Federal government has no business interfering with matters of state and local government. What does federalism mean anymore?
