Bin Laden is human, too (Ithaca mega-hurl alert)

[history]
This cartoon is inappropriate and offensive. Too many times have certain groups declared their enemies to be non-human. This serves no cause but that of barbarism. We cannot ignore the real social processes behind our enemies' actions, as well as our own. Any activities carried out by bin Laden are those of a human being, acting in a world created by humans, including us.

According to the author's
web page, he is more or less a life-long Ithaca resident.

I am sure that bin Laden and the al Quida boys feel just as tender, gentle, considerate, and warm hearted as our friends in Ithaca.
As a point of irony, given the demographics of many of those slaughtered in the World Trade Center towers (male, highly educated, highly intelligent) there certainly were represented many Cornell graduates (an Ivy League school in Ithaca, NY).

Perhaps the scientist should compare the Bin Laden DNA to the DNA of Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Speck.

"social processes??"
What the flock does that mean? That we're supposed to wring our hands?
What we need is peaceful justice and understanding for all members of the human race.
What I understand is that Osama Yo Mama needs to be sent to the hereafter, period.

Ithica, city of snivelers.
Note to Bruce.
Anyone who would convince other people to crash an airliner into a highrise
and kill thousands of people has LOST their humanity.
Note to Bruce.
Exterminate the vermin!

What is it about the water around Ithica?

I'm sure the author of this article feels morally superior to us lesser mortals now, having written the above. This is how these folks feel good about themsleves.

Both Hitler and bin Laden are included in the human race, unfortunately. That means it's the rest of the race's responsibility to eliminate individuals like these two who come along every so often. It's called culling the herd...

What is it about the water around Ithica?Nothing.
Ithaca gets its water from Cayuga Lake, as does a big chunk of the otherwise conservative Finger Lakes area.

This cartoon is inappropriate and offensive. An honest difference of opinion.
The cartoon is spot on, as far as I'm concerned.
I have no problem labelling evil when I see it.
Human is as human does...

Whoa, what have we here? Another Completely Dumbed Down American Professor with tenure no doubt, teaching Social Engineering, Political Correctness and Complete Submission of Will to the empty heads that attend his classes.
MEMO to students: Run don't Walk from classes like this and teachers like this.

"Too many times have certain groups declared their enemies to be non-human."I would agree that the cartoon would be over the line and offensive if it had, for example, declared all Arabs to be non-human. However, the cartoon as described simply illustrated the evil of one man.

I think post 29 (immediately above yours) answered your comment better than I could, but thanks for the lecture.
I take it, then, you consider there to be no such thing as "inhuman" behavior?
To: Behind Liberal Lines
We cannot ignore the real social processes behind our enemies' actions, as well as our own. The social process that my friend of 20 years used was: he went to work, same as he did 5 days a week, in an effort to take care of his 3 kids and his wife. The social process Bin Laden used was: he manipulated someone into flying a plane into my freinds office killing him and about 3,000 other people. There, I'm no longer ignoring social process. And if I ever meet the author face to face I have a few more social processes I intend to introduce him to.

Looks like the professional student is a littel math-impaired (from his website):
Assignments and grading:
Class discussion 10 %
Two essays 15 % each
Class facilitation 10 %
Field Assignment & Final Paper 50 %
That only accounts for 85% of the final grade. I guess (liberal) political activism makes up the remaining 15%.

I'd like to pose a question to the writer of this article. If the possession of human DNA is the definition of being human, then how about all those aborted babies? Don't you imagine that if you checked their DNA, you would find that they are human too?
None of those very human, unborn babies is a mass murderer, either.

As usual, a liberal who lacks a sense of humor.
Now, if you call an unborn baby a human, he'd probably complain that you were an anti abortion far right wing fascist.

Oddly, you're probably pretty close. A lot of instructors for such classes reserve a fudge factor for themselves, usually under the guise of "participation". In reality, what this boils down to is a means to reward students who display the proper attitude - i.e., mouth the correct platitudes. And it cuts both ways, of course - it's also a way of insuring that students with retrograde attitudes can never get an "A", no matter what. They just label you as "disruptive" and yank away that participation grade.
And this is spoken as someone who failed to get an "A" in a few courses for precisely that reason ;)

To: Behind Liberal Lines
what we need is peaceful justice and understanding for all members of the human race.No problem. We'll peacefully find him guilty of instigating mass murder, understand that he's a power-crazed sociopath who is only genetically a member of the human race, and peacefully hang him from the flagpole in front of the Pentagon. Thus will justice be served, and the majority of the human race protected from his predation.
