On hot summer days, my old Welsh Corgi, Malcolm, loved to sleep on smooth cool newspapers, or in front of the floor fan. And in the best case scenario, he'd lay on a newspaper in front of the fan.
One day, after hours of comfortable snoozing, he got up and ambled off to get a drink of water. But as he sauntered back to resume his repose, he froze in his tracks, his blood curdling in terror. The newspaper had suddenly come to life! It was flapping around and crackling with evil sounds like an angry demonic bird trying to fly away!
His eyes widened and the hair along his back stood up on end. He growled, showed his fangs, then began lunging and snapping at the paper. Thrust, retreat, aggress, parry, bark and snarl.
Inevitably he snagged the paper and shook it wildly. But that only made matters worse. The paper crackled even more violently and attacked him in return! He shrieked and backed off, then retreated behind the big comfy chair. He stuck his head around the corner to growl and bark some more, but it was over. He lost, he'd been scared off. What a brave little coward.
At that point, I became tired of his stupid game. I turned off the fan, whereupon the newspaper stopped moving in the air stream. I grabbed the dog up by the scruff of his hide, set him down in front of the now dead paper menace, and read him the "reality act."
"That evil creature was just paper blown by the fan, you idiot! Can't you see that for yourself? What in the name of God do you think is going on? Are you really dumb enough to believe that some old piece of newspaper is alive, for Heaven's sake? You bonehead!! What a fool!!"
He wriggled and cried and snapped at me, then scurried off behind the chair again, still terrified. I shifted the paper around so the fold faced the fan, then I turned the fan back on and the breeze forced the paper closed instead of blowing it open. I called at him to come back and lay down, but he grumbled and stayed firmly rooted behind the chair. Only days later did his paranoia fade enough for him to sleep in front of the fan again, but even today he sniffs suspiciously at the papers I put down for him, and he still walks nervously around them whenever he can.
Inevitably I figured it out: He lives in a simple, non-linear, magical world where simple, everyday events are wildly misperceived, then thought to be real, with no complex explanations or exotic connections required or given. Miracles abound everywhere, springing into reality with no warning. Everything that moves is alive. Shadows live on the wall, warmth lives in the heating grate, and the vacuum cleaner really is a loud, dangerous monster. Causal relationships are based on false perceptions: The doorbell actually causes the guest to appear; the can opener actually causes the food to appear. The potency of your reaction makes the erroneous conclusions true; the more vehemently you believe something, the more true it is. The greater your fear, the louder you bark, the more bona fide the threat. The strength of your belief causes your belief to be real. It's a circular, magical, self-validating process.
In this realm, there's no critical thinking, no higher brain functions, no way of seeing the electricity behind the fan, the endless hours of money-grubbing work behind the food, or the simple mechanical reality behind even the most mysterious occurrences. The most absurd fictions appear true, and the more aggressively or angrily some magical foolishness is asserted, proclaimed, or defended, then the more real and factual the patent idiocy will seem.
As I listen to the utterly stupid nonsense that most of our Democratic and Liberal friends (for 'friends' read 'enemies') believe and assert in the public media nowadays, it's plain to see that they're in no way better or brighter than dumb animals.
Mired in paranoid fantasies and conspiracy theories, they display no more critical thinking than a pack of frightened dogs barking wildly at a shirt on a clothesline, "blowing in the wind." They haven't even got the brainpower to perceive (or be humiliated by) their own lack of brainpower. They just keep repeating whatever lies they want to be true, adding embellishments over time, and through that evolving repetition the lies become an entire erroneous and hate-filled system of illogical assertions, which then passes for truth in the feeble minds of the ignorant and stupid.
I've gathered here a few near-verbatim examples of the kind of vitriolic comments that are seriously expressed every day on TV and radio call-in shows like C-Span, CNN, and NPR. It's not as important to know who said them as it is to understand that these awful things are felt and said by millions of people, living among us, disguised as average human beings. Try your best to follow their magical thinking. It's perfectly OK if you can't of course, it's not linear or rational or logical.
1. George Bush is a witless, cocaine addicted alcoholic simpleton and rich frat-boy bumpkin who ran a complicated conspiracy to steal the Presidency. An unelected man sits in the Oval Office, and Democracy itself is on the verge of ruin. He's deliberately trying to destroy the environment, destroy Social Security, he wants people to starve and die on the street while he lords it over America like an evil King. He's a little God who intends that there will never be another free election in this country again. America is now ruled by a slimy little military deserter who is worse than Adolph Hitler, a vicious war-monger who makes Adolph Hitler look like a saint. The Supreme Court should be taken out behind the Capital Building and shot!! Democracy in America is DEAD!!
2. This President is in the pocket of Enron. They paid him Millions to avoid paying BILLIONS in taxes. It's the Fat Cats who own and run the world, and they laugh while the little people die in squalor. Wealth belongs to everyone, not to the top 10 percent. That's our money in their pockets and they should give it back to us. The Stock Market is the greatest criminal enterprise of all time, pushing work-a-day people around like cattle and then selling their lives down the drain for billions in immoral profit. Deadly wars and illegal military actions are waged on behalf of the evil Corporate Princes and Monstrous Overlords who compete with each other for control of Planet Earth. Greed and Profit-taking are the root causes of worldwide poverty and strife. All the members of the New York Stock Exchange should be killed, and all of America's economic empires should be ground into nothing, their assets federalized and redistributed downward to the poor of the world. Corporations and the Stock Market are the true enemies of humankind, and anyone who participates in them must die.
3. America is the most evil country in history. More decadent in our excesses than the Ancient Greek and Roman Empires, more vicious and sadistic than the Germany of World War Two, America is the true scourge of the whole world. From the pimps and thieves and murderous slave owners who founded it, from the genocide of the Natives and the 400 years of Slavery, to the attacks on Viet Nam, Grenada and Haiti, to the ReligioCorporate Imperialistic Militaristic Jingoism of today, America's Military/Industrial Complex spreads its Global Corporate Apartheid and Imperialism to every corner of Plantation Earth on behalf of the Evil White Male Merchant Princes. Our Christian leaders are America's Taliban, and our politicians are bought left and right, hopelessly corrupted by Corporate Cowboy money immorally torn from the hands and hungry mouths of the poor. Don't forget, "Usama" (Bin Laden) begins with U-S-A! Filled with killers and death, White America is Nazi America!!
We'll stop there, even though the mean spirited remarks could go on and on until we're all ready to barf.
It's clear that all these comments embody irrationality, rage, anger, ignorance and stupidity of Olympian proportion, hatefully sneered and spewed by people with no critical ability of any sort, people who don't care what's true or false, people for whom clear and proper thinking are alien concepts. They're truly animals, wallowing in their own shallow intellectual filth, hurling their offensive refuse at the hundreds of non-existent, imaginary injustices in which they merely prefer to believe, rather than face their own absurd, frightened prejudices which only pass for reality in their magical world.
As silly (and harmless) as it all may look on the surface (I mean, exactly how dangerous can the politically corrected sociologists and brain-dead student activists, or a bunch of retired morons on the phone actually be?), but it's important to understand that their America-hating legends and asinine conspiracy mythologies form the base of what every Democrat, from the professional political chucklehead in power to the average career Welfare recipient, honestly believes in their heart. They all hate Business and Profit. They despise the Wealthy, embrace Redistributionism, they revile morality and hate Republicans to the point of self-righteous homicide. We all know that if they had their way, Private Enterprise would turn into Politically Corrected Employee-owned Maoist Co-operatives, our right of association would be replaced by forced, therapeutic association with people who detest America and deliberately offend the patriots among us, and our neighborhoods would be federalized into "diversity zones," each a landscape painted by the cosmetically engineered numbers foisted on us by the Multiculturalists who want to see the voting power their enemies (the Achiever Class) undermined by the omnipresence of America's "victims."
And this assertion of the obvious (that every Democratic politician, and every Democratic voter, is a secret, vicious, social radical in their heart) can be proven anywhere, any time. Simply insist that any Democrat in question clearly and openly condemn all the ignorant hate-mongers in their midst once and for all time. They won't do it. Ted Kennedy, and the people who vote for him, will never condemn the outrageous lies spread by AFSME or other labor unions. Maxine Waters and the people who vote for her will never condemn the outrageous lies and abuse heaped on the CIA, falsely accused of seeding the curse of crack cocaine and other vile drugs into the ghettos. The apostles of Michael Moore, or Ralph Nader and the people who vote for him will never condemn those jerk-offs who blame George Bush and his friends in the vile Corporate community for engineering the murderous World Trade Center outrage in their pursuit of destroying Social Security.
Again, I could go on citing one Democrat after another who, in his/her heart, won't condemn the radical leftism that espouses the awful, vile, foolish magical issues, but it would always be the same:
Undeterred by facts, the front edge of Democratic Activism pursues a Magical Agenda, a hate-filled wishlist for social change based on their huge corpus of self-inflicted illusions. The Democratic politicians who hold the same sentiments, but maintain a quiet, crafty public profile about their core sympathetic goals to keep from alienating their voting constituents, want the exact same destructive things. Their shared agenda is always the same: Destroy the Achiever Class and redistribute their wealth to the Failure Class at the bottom of the World's socioeconomic ladder.
Liberal high school and college student activists, devotees of Coleman McCarthy, Noam Chomsky and Cornell West, WTO protesters, acolytes of Ramsay Clark and Strobe Talbot, Social Justice fools etc, they're all just a bunch of losers who espouse lost, imaginary causes. Dumb animals barking at the demons in their own mind, they're unapproachable idiots who can't possibly see the larger realities behind the nasty magical illusions against which they constantly rage so impotently. But .... these people cannot be so easily written off.
Certainly they have to be challenged at every turn, shown up for the non-critical clowns and ignorant hate-mongers they really are. Otherwise, they'll think that they're in some way intelligent, which is a lie which they should not be allowed to believe.
But the real target must be must always be the Democratic politicians (either in office or seeking office) who never mention their true beliefs in public. Every single day, at every turn, on every TV and radio call-in show, at every town hall meeting, on every editorial page in every newspaper in the country, we must demand that Democrats either own up to being radicals or renounce radicals now and forever. Or both. Demand that they utterly condemn Redistributionism, Third Way Socialism, the Reparations movement and its lawsuits, the WTO rioters and their Anarchistic ideology, anti-Corporate sentiments, the anti-American philosophies in our schools, indeed the whole spectrum of ignorant rage espoused by today's panoply of permanently infuriated Leftist nitwits.
And the beautiful part is that they won't do it. They'll hemm and haww, buck and weave, stammer and stutter, change the subject, or even get downright angry, but they will never, ever renounce the hate. It's the one thing they all have in common. They're all a bunch of angry dumb animals, barking in ignorant fury at things they can't possibly understand.
I must take some exception to your well-articulated piece.
My bulldog has uncovered a vacuum-cleaner conspiracy in my house. He lies on the floor, growling at the vacuum every time it begins to make its move. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, he attacks the villanous device, saving his sleeping family.
But he's not a Democrat nor a Liberal! But come to think of it, he doesn't have a job.

The Distraction caused by the VRWC and the resulting blindness towards everything Clinton had tried to do finally caught up with America, and with one of the key players. When Bin Laden's terrorists struck the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001, Ted Olson's wife was on the plane. Reportedly, she was on the phone with him as the plane disintegrated. At that point, the great game of the conspirators must have seemed more like real life.
The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy was a fact. The Republicans admit it now, as though it were a harmless fraternity prank of the past. But it involved treason. And it led to tragedy. It should be investigated. The avenues which these potential coup leaders used to distract and almost overthrow our government need to be blocked. The public officials who brought this on us need to be punished, imprisoned, removed from office, and branded for life. Richard Mellon Scaife and Ted Olson should replace Benedict Arnold and Judas Iscariot as symbols of treason.
Bill Clinton's reputation needs to be restored every bit as vigorously as it was destroyed, to show the future that good leadership is rewarded, and treachery is rejected. Not for Clinton's sake, but for our nation's.
When this conspiracy pays for its crimes, then it will be over.

The one I always find entertaining is their sheer inability to answer simple yes or no questions. I watch them on the news shows sometimes being asked repeatedly a question which requires just a simple yes or no. They will hedge and dodge and change the subject and finally fly into a rage to keep from having to answer the question.
