CAMPAIGN TO INVITE FIRST LADY LAURA BUSH TO BECOME A MEMBER OF MMM IS LAUNCHED! "First Lady joins MMM" The MMM has launched a new Campaign this Mother's Day to invite First Lady Laura Bush to join the Million Mom March to help us work for sensible gun laws and safe kids! Help make this headline a reality by inviting your family and friends to sign the online invitation to the First Lady at http://www.millionmommarch.org/whitehouse/. A free subscription to MMM E-News will be offered to all signers. The Campaign is expected to bring in a flood of community supporters to encourage the First Lady to join and work for our goals to save the lives of our children:

·Mobilize the vast majority of Americans who want common sense gun laws; ·Require Brady Law criminal background checks for all gun sales; ·Help law enforcement protect public safety with stronger firearm record-keeping laws; ·License handgun owners and register all handguns; ·Implement consumer protection safety standards for guns and better oversight of the gun industry.

The collected names and addresses from the website and event cards will be returned to your chapter to help you build capacity and new memberships You should be receiving 500 event cards along with more instructions via the mail for your use during your spring events. If you don't receive them by next Wednesday, please contact your Regional Director.

Many MMM Chapters are holding events this spring where website coordinated campaign cards will be distributed to encourage community supporters to join in asking the First Lady to join our efforts to keep our children safe with sensible gun laws. Some of these events include a picnic and march starting at the Belle Glade City Hall in Florida on May 11th from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a Memorial Bell Garden dedication in at the Lake Place Park at 1 p.m. on June 29th in Duluth, Minnesota by the Northland Chapter, the Mercer County Chapter is sponsoring a Candle Light Vigil on Mother's Day evening from 6-8:30 p.m. on the steps of the City Hall in Trenton, New Jersey, and the California Moms are going to Sacramento on May 8th for their annual Lobby Day, carrying baby blankets to ask their legislators to pass legislation to prevent the blanket immunity given to the gun industry in their state. The Hampton Roads Chapter is sponsoring the "People Pedaling Peace Bike Ride from Hampton to DC on June 22-25 in memory of chapter members Mike and Sandra Mc Sweeney's daughter.

A family event "Kites Over Connecticut" is planned this Saturday, May 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sherwood Island State Park. In Seattle the MOMs are sponsoring "Ready, Aim, Sing!" providing a day of free music and entertainment on Mother's Day at the Seattle Center House. The Dallas Chapter participated in an event for National Crime Victims Week with the ceremony held at the Dallas County Courthouse. The Washtenaw County Chapter will be holding a Mother's Day march from 4-5 p.m. from the Liberty Square to City Hall in downtown Ann Harbor where the featured speaker will be Congresswoman Lynn Rivers. May has been declared Family Gun Safety Month in Oregon and on Mother's Day the chapters will have their annual march along the south bank of the river that runs through Eugene. There will be literature exchanges, speeches and lots of music.

The Twin Cities Chapter will be scheduling one day in August at the MN State Fair to show up with their families all dressed in pink clothes to show their solidarity and distribute literature and event cards. On April 27th the Hampton Roads Chapter marched downtown with an Apple Pie being awarded to their Chief of Police. The Colorado MOMS have been busy testifying against a bad CCW shall issue bill with many excursions into the community to pass out flyers. The Forsyth County Chapter held a "Hands with Guns" project in the Mall on April 25 and another one is planed for June 15 at the Safety Day at the fairgrounds.

The Northern Suburban Chicagoland Chapter took out a one-quarter-page ad in a chain of newspapers to run the Thursday before Mother's Day and they are sending out 400 Mother's Day Cards to their membership to recap recent successes and highlight summer events that include the annual Fourth of July Parade in Evanston, IL. CA and New Jersey MOMS will be unveiling billboards to highlight priority bills in their states.

We tried to incorporate all the MMM events, but I am sure we missed some! Please add your events to the Bulletin Board so all can see. The "members only" Bulletin Board has loads of great activities and events with more details and contact numbers as well as a new calendar of events section.

You have probably noted that more details were provided in this listserve than in the MMM E-News. This was done to protect your events from possible disruption by you know who! Please make sure that this information that is sent to your members and supporters is a secure list. If in doubt, please edit accordingly. Thanks. Isn't it amazing the diversity of terrific events?

Do plan to join in the activities planned by the MMM Chapters this spring and let's get those names pouring into http:www.millionmommarch.org/whitehouse/ to be placed on the invitation to First Lady Laura Bush asking her to join the Million Mom March!

It will be very interesting, to see the reaction of the Hard-Core "W" fans, if she accepts. As matter of fact, at the same time some in the DemonRat party are running away from the issue of guns. This flirtation with the HCI/MMM/AGS gun grabbers, would be virtual political suicide for "W".

I'll just bet your little heart skipped a beat
waiting for the chance to bash Bush some more,
didn't it? I'll bet you Bush-bashers are just
waiting for Laura to accept, just so you can trash
her too, aren't you? Well, you'll be waiting an
awfull long time, because Laura isn't a political
fiend like Hillary is. If that makes me a so-called
Bush fan, to write this, then so be it!

On the other hand, maybe she WOULD accept an invitation to endorse the Second Amendment Sisters.

Suggested text of Mrs. Bush's reply:

Dear Ms. Bleck: I am flattered to be offered a chance to join your organization. As you may know, I am a champion of children around the world, and their safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance to both me and my husband. Having two teenage daughters ourselves, we understand the value of family, and the many dangers present in this uncertain world.

However, concerned as I am about the world's young people, I do not believe additional gun control laws will protect them. In fact, I have heard substantiated evidence to the contrary, that locales with responsible concealed carry laws and strong gun training programs actually have a lower incidence of violent crime than areas where gun control is strictest.

Let me respond to your kind offer by extending an invitation to you: please join George and I in pushing for stronger gun training programs and safe, sane concealed carry laws. If you are truly concerned about the safety of our young people, I am sure you will recognize the value of such legislation in your community.

I look forward to working with you to promote gun safety and the wellbeing America's children.

It will be very interesting, to see the reaction of the Hard-Core "W" fans, if she accepts.

That will be interesting, however, the reaction of Bush Bashers, (Which probably includes you), IS predictable.

With barely a "The fact she DIDN'T join doesn't prove a d*mn thing" and you'll rush on to another issue to try and undermine them with.

Bush has already committed political suicide in many other ways, why not have the first lady help him with more.

Yeah right, they really need some more gun control laws in CA and NJ. I hear there are still some loopholes that let a few people own guns in those states.

Correction: "Please join George and me ..."

Hopefully, the First Lady can remember the difference between nominative and objective case better than her would-be speech writer.

I hope and pray God gives wisdom to Laura Bush to remain non-commital on this issue. The forces that propel Bleck and the organization will try to undermine the credibility of Laura Bush, hence, forcing the same on our President.....May she remain steadfast in her faith and do what is best for the country and not become entangled in the 'web of deceit'.

Non-commital?? Why on earth should she remain non-commital? One side of the debate is based on sound constitutional principles, and strengthens the freedoms of non government employees, at the expense of their paid "servants". The other side would further emasculate the freedoms of citizens with jobs, to the benefit of collectivist elements within the government, as well as compromising the peoples ability to protect themselves against violent crime, whether perpetrated by a mugger on the street or under the color of authority.

Uh, yeah, sure, I can see merit to both sides here (NOT)!
