Scare-tactic smoking gun (DEMS CAUGHT RED HANDED)
U.S. News - Washington Whispers ^ | 5/22/02 | Paul Bedard

Republican congressional leaders are warning Democrats that they plan to rat out political lies and attacks in the upcoming midterm elections. "This is not the good old says where you throw this all up and see what sticks," says Rep. Tom Davis, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. "If they yell and hit us below the belt, we'll hit them in the eye." For evidence, Davis on Wednesday released the copy of a Democratic E-mail revealed here Tuesday in which a staffer for Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur boasts of wrongly hyping an attack on President Bush's Social Security reform plan. The topic is a draft editorial on the Bush program about which legislative aide Julie Little writes, "not entirely accurate." Then she adds, "Talk about scaring seniors–this may be a little over the top. But it is sooo fun to bash Republicans." Little says that "it's highly unlikely" she wrote the inflammatory language. How did the Republicans get the March 26 E-mail? Davis says it was accidentally sent to a GOP staffer with the same last name as one of the Democratic staffers.

Rip their hearts out?

I strongly prefer kicking them in the groin.

Thus the claim that the GOP staffer received the email by accident appears to be eroneous.

Sigh. Shoulda read yours before posting the same thing.

Probably pretty tame compared to SHRILLERY'S totally unreal declarations about "reality." as she sees it--in other words--regarding the delusional world she seems to enter when she talks about normally sane people such as Bush. . . . as though she ever left her delusional world.

Have you ever noticed how much Lott looks like Jake Reno, and that you never see the two of them together?

What are you talking about? There's a picture of them together right on this very thread (Msg #20)

Fed workers dont pay social security and ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANYTHING FROM SOCIAL SECURITY. Only when they meet same pay standards as everyone else. And they pay huge amounts into their own retirement system. New fed workers I think do pay social security, but I am not certain.

Government workers not in SS get the same or more than SS pays, that is why they don't want into SS. They also retire earlier then those in the private sector and get a second job for just long enough so they can leech off SS the rest of their lives.

There are many plans out there for them but I doubt any of them pay into their systems more than the rest of us pay into Social Security.

Most of the nearly 7 million who are out of SS are in state and local govenment. Union people. The same ones who cry the loudest when we want out of Social Security.

This has the looks of a Microsoft Outlook "Reply to All" reply. Unless "Steve Fought" is the person with the "same last name," it's really unlikely that somebody else got on distro.

With Outlook, if the message was forwarded to others by one of the addressees, wouldn't the message look exactly like the one shown?

No. As it stands, the message says "RE: Have at it...."

Outlook would have marked a forwarded message as "FW: Have at it...."

It is entirely possible, however, for this message to have been forwarded to ... whomever, and that the forwarding information was removed before it was sent on to USNews.

Thanks, and hello, WIMom. This one looks ripe for some 'conservative' editing.

I think I'll start with this one--

"Americans want and deserve retirement security not retirement insecurity. Many senior citizens in America rely on the monthly Social Security checks that average $874. This is not pocket change; it is a lifeline. Without Social Security and Medicare many would not survive."

REWRITE: Americans want and deserve retirement security not retirement insecurity, however, the government spent the trust fund instead of investing it. Many senior citizens, many of which aren't citizens, nor have contributed significantly to the system, in America rely on the monthly Social Security checks that average $874. This is not pocket change; it is a life deathline. Without Social Security and Medicare many would not survive continue to believe and vote for the liberal DemocRATS.

Nice to see the GOP giving some back for a change

Hate to rain on the parade, but I'll believe it when I see it.

The email contains a plea for fact checking:

"Does the rhetoric match the facts here?"

Like that has ever mattered to the 'rats. Republicans have been called Nazis on the congressional floor.
