Chandra: Conspiracy or incompetence? Did the DC police, or anyone, use cadaver dogs?

Posted on 05/23/2002 4:49:57 AM PDT by ken5050

In watching the media coverage of the discovery of Chandra's remains yesterday, much was made of the inensice grid search of the area last year by the DC police cadets. It is very easy, in a heavily wooded area, to overlook anything, even a body, if it is buried in the earth, and then covered with brush. However, that would not deter a cadaver dog. These animals can detect small pieces of decomposing flesh, so an entire body would have been an easy find for a trained animal. So, this begs the question. Were cadaver dogs used in the search?

I'm sure Hildabeast was well aware of that fact when her boytoy Vince was dumped off. BTW maybe that case will now get the same degree of scrutiny?

It's possible Chandra was being held in the mansion and left to die or killed at a later date. What bothers me is why did Dick Gephardt put Condit on homeland security committe instead of removing him. It makes me wonder just how much Gephardt and the Dems knew about Chandra. The Dems needed a diversion from 9/11, it was back firing on them. Bring out the body so Hillary and Chelsea can ride their Camels into the White House into the next election. I think Gephardt is up to his eyeballs in a cover up for Condit. The Constitution, remove the corruption from the government or you must resign. Gephardt used homeland security as a sheild for Condit. The Levy family needs to get the Washington Police Chief as far away from the investigation as they possibly can.

Yes, they do need someone besides DCPD to investigate this. I think I read that Condit never had a security check.

Thanks for agreeing..that's making me curious also..you'd figure the guy and his god would be giving TV interviews every 15 minutes, and he'd be looking for an Alpo commerical.....

Cadaver dogs had to have been used, unless orders were given NOT to,which is more confusing, and there's NO way the dogs wouldn't hit on he scent....something's not kosher..

I want to know about the watch, the expensive gold bracelet, and her keys. If the watch or the bracelet were found with her, then someone is trying to implicate Condit, as he would not have left those incriminating items behind.

He had to get rid of the watch box because the spy guys told him that they would plant the watch on her if he didn't play ball or if they ever just felt like it. I find it incredibly coincidental that a stranger just happened to see and recognize Condit when he tried to dispose of the box. More likley, his every move was being watched by the spy guys, and they arranged for someone to notice and report this.

If the keys weren't with her, then someone took them. Why, I can't say. But no one leaves their apartment without their keys, especially in such a secure building which required a key, card,or something just to get into the front door.

Absolutely! The question is why?

Re#51 Good point on the watch. After 9-11 I forgot the 24/7 sleuthing on the news about this, and Condit's actions. They were not of a man without something to hide. Oh, that the truth outs...

Thanks. I have had a weird feeling that Tricky Dicky Gephardt was in this up to his non-existent eyebrows...

I believe it has already been admitted that no points on north of the Mansion, closer to the Maryland line, nor west of the Creek up into the Brandywine area, were ever searched whether by people or by dogs.

This body was brought by vehicle on the Broad Branch Rd at the top of the bluff, and brought/dragged down until the incline starts getting really steep, and there buried in a shallow earth grave.

The other items related to her jogging, would have been dumped with it to make it LOOK like the casual murder of a jogger, but May Not Have Even Been What She Was Wearing When Killed, remember someone had access to her apt. and sanitized it, and perhaps the computer too, and they could have got the clothes from there...

The clothes looked like they, with the walkman, might have just been scattered around the area, not ON the corpse at any time, just left near it.

As despicable a person Gephardt is, I think you have been reading too much conspiracy crap. Its more likely that Gephardt put him on the Homeland Security committee because all of the members were coming from those that had high level security clearance, had served on intelligence committees and had seniority. As I recall Condit had been member of one of the intelligence committess for a long time. As such it would have been more politically embarrasing to the Democrats to not put him on the committee basically saying he was guilty as were they by association than it was to quietly put him on the committee and hope no one noticed.

Some of you that put forth the serial killer or random killing scenario seem to forget that Chandra researched the Kringle Mansion area on her computer prior to going there. Why would she do that if she was not going to meet someone. As far as the search dogs go, the searchers were aware of the computer search Chandra had done, that is why they went to that specific area to search. For the body to be found 1 mile from the mansion at this late date implies that the body was dumped AFTER the search took place...here is info on search dogs:

Resourceful canine handlers have found that dogs can be trained to detect human remains long after death., despite burial or attempted concealment. Trained dogs are able to distinguish between human remains, animal remains, and a wide range of other odors that would normally be expected to distract them. Thus, their ability to distinguish between sources of similar biological odors enhances their application in the area of Human Remains detection (HRD)...Bodies buried, disarticulated bodies, bodies submerged in water, or hidden in vehicles or structures have been efficiently located by HRD teams.

Source

Cadaver dogs are trained to use their powerful sense of smell to locate a missing body. The dogs can do this because as a dead body decomposes it gives off gasses with a distinct smell. The dogs are taught to recognize and alert to this smell, even in very small concentrations, and to follow the smell to its source. The gasses will even rise through the earth from a buried body, or up through the water from a drowning victim.

Source

Humans shed millions of microscopic skin cells (called rafts) on a continual basis. As a person moves along, these particles leave an invisible trail that is detectable to a dog. Some fall to the ground or catch on blades of grass, trees, or other obstacles, while some are carried along on air currents. The closer the dog is to the 'victim' the more concentrated this trail becomes.

If they weren't used, then it's either gross incompetence, or someone didn't want the body found.

From what I've read cadaver dogs are expensive to train & keep. They're not as common as narcotic dogs. It's just not the dog but the handler's training & their salaries as well.

So it begs the question: is it finacially feasible for any municipality to pay for cadaver teams from other parts of the country for 1 missing person? Would you be willing to pay more taxes for this service?

Remember that, since we have been let know that Condit and Chandra were having an affair...

Neither the presence of his DNA on/near her, NOR the presence of the Watch on or near her, will really prove anything against him.

What terrified him about the Watch must have been, NOT that it was on the body or near it, BUT that HE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE IT WAS, it had come off, gone awol, lost in the fracas, and probably at some site that was his or related to him, where its finding would be highly incriminating to him, probably the place of the killing.

Mirzayan was killed in August.

Greta V.S. said that she could SEE the place where they found the body from her house, less than 100 yards. Perhaps they went in on the road side?
