Environmentalists Drive 'Gas Guzzler' From Protest Site

Dallas (CNSNews.com) - Anti-corporate protesters and environmentalists were charged with hypocrisy for leaving a Dallas rally against ExxonMobil Corporation in a full size passenger van. Free market counter demonstrators began chanting "SUV Alert" as the anti-corporatist protesters retreated to their Ford Econoline van.

Despite a call by an anti-ExxonMobil protester to "burn" all SUV's in America, the demonstrators left the rally site at the Morton Meyerson Center in the van. One protester conceded it was "unfortunate" that they drove the van to the rally decrying ExxonMobil's environmental policies.

Carol Jones, a free market counter protester of the Texas branch of the group Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE), was on hand at the downtown rally and charged the anti-ExxonMobil protesters with hypocrisy for driving a "gas guzzler."

"They always bring all their blow up [props] in SUV's, which they are totally against," she commented.

Jordana Banana, a protester against ExxonMobil responded "no comment" when asked by CNSNews.com about the use of the full size van.

When pressed on the issue, she said, "It's unfortunate that we have to drive a van. It would definitely be our preference to be able to take alternative forms of transportation, but unfortunately today, we had a lot of gear with us."

Banana added, "All of our gear though is recycled."

Before retreating to the van, another of the anti-ExxonMobil protesters, who would only give his first name, launched an attack on SUV's in America. "We should burn them all. They are horrible, they are useless," Luigi said. "Most people should be able to get by with a two-door car for the same thing they use SUV's for," he added.

Jones quipped, "[The protesters] don't want us to have SUV's, but they just got to have their SUV's."

Ford Econoline van's fuel economy varies from a low of 13 mph in the city to 21 mph on the highway, depending upon how they are equipped, according to EPA figures for the 2001 model year.

Busted!

Wanna bet that the heads of all those green groups drive gas guzzlers? How about the environmentalists in Con-gress? How about all those celebrities that claim to be green?

Hypocrites.

Luigi is right! My two door camaro gets me there much better than my SUV. Faster, louder, sleeker, and thanks to the mods, with less fuel economy. But hey, it's my money. When I can no longer afford it, I'll buy a more efficient car. I hear the new vettes get 28 on the highway.

And to think these people are allowed to drive at all, not to mention vote.

"It's unfortunate that we have to drive a van."

As though somebody forced them against their will to do so. Scrutinize each one of them and you'll find lots of other environmental "indiscretions." Guaranteed.

If they were true believers, they'd walk. Riding a horse oppresses our animal co-dependents, and buying a bicycle to ride would enrich the greedy capitalist bicycle manufacturers.

Its just your SUV that polutes, not theirs.

Of course, its funny to note that there may be nothing more hypocritical than an "environmentalist" bumper sticker on any type of car at all.

BUT they would have to go bare foot and NAKED if they were true enviromentalist...and anti-capitalist.

PS Hubby says I'd love to see them out there shoveling manure out of the barn like he did as a kid. They'd have a different attitude today.

I suppose that they could wear a fig leaf. But only from a non-endangered, organically grown, pesticide-free, non-genetically enhanced fig tree.

Nah. I just got done reading 'Politically Correct Fairy Tales'. Most of the stories read about like my last post.

I especially liked 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.....the giant says "FE FI FO FUM! I smell the blood of an English person! I want to share my culture with him and discuss his in an unbiased and generous way'.

Or something along those lines. :)

I don't care much for enviromentalist weirdos, but they do have one point about SUVs. They are stupid vehicles that have no physical or practical purpose.

SUVs came about because there was a "loophole" in the tax code for company owned commercial vehicles. A business owner discovered that he could write off depreciation faster on his company's work trucks than he could on his own cadilac. So he decided to buy a truck loaded with all the luxuries and options and use that as his personal vehicle instead of a cadilac. The business owners discovered this was cheaper in the long run than driving a cadilac even though the cadilac got better gas mileage, plus, the truck was bigger and roomier. The auto manufacturers got wind of this and began offering more and more options in trucks to cater to these clever business owners. As CAFE standards became stricter and stricter, the traditional luxury car became less and less and the "luxury truck" became more and more. So basically, we have a vehicle whose main purpose is to fit through a tax loophole. The irony is that nowdays the majority of SUV drivers own their SUV personally...it is not a company vehicle, they are not business owners, and thus they cannot take advantage of the tax loophole. So for them this vehicle has ZERO purpose. Also, most SUVs nowdays are equipped with automatic transmissions and full time 4 wheel drive and quiet highway tires. These 3 features nearly destroy all the off roading abilities that it would've had if equipped with more traditionally. It's a vehicle that can't do anything well and is designed for nothing and in some cases, is a safety hazard as well.
