Media, Congress Ignored Whistle-Blowers Under Clinton

The media have been abuzz recently with the story of whistle-blower Coleen Rowley, the FBI special agent who called Director Robert Mueller on the recent fumble on terrorist threats. Let me start off by stating that I, too, commend Agent Rowley for her bravery in becoming a whistle-blower, for I know firsthand the risk one takes in the federal government when making the decision to come forward. What I would like for someone to explain to me is why this whistle-blower is getting well-deserved attention by the mainstream media when stories like mine that happened mostly under the Clinton administration have gotten little or no attention.

I was a former U.S. Customs special agent when I resigned in disgust in October 1999. I and several of my co-workers had come forward with information regarding not only a valid terrorist threat, but we also had identified what we felt was high-level corruption within Customs.

This threat involved the potential for terrorists to use pressurized rail tanker cars as instruments of destruction. While running a counter-narcotics smuggling operation in Southern California, I found that narco traffickers were using rail tanker cars to import tons of illegal narcotics into the country via these rail cars.

These suspicions were confirmed when I seized 8,000 pounds of marijuana and 34 kilos of cocaine in one of these cars. As a result of this high-level, multi-taskforce investigation, we were shocked at the ease with which the narco traffickers accomplished not only the smuggling of these narcotics into the U.S., but also the delivery to their destinations in the U.S. via these rail cars. With phony I.D. and cash, the deliveries were easily made over the internet or via telephone with the railroads’ customer service departments.

In 1999, years before 9-11, we concluded that our nation was at serious risk of terrorist attacks. It would be easy for terrorists to simply copy the modus opperandi of the narco traffickers and send these cars to any rail spur in the U.S. loaded with explosives, bio hazards, or a combination thereof.

Feinstein's Failure

Over two years ago we took these concerns, as well as our concerns of corrupt Customs managers, to the FBI, Office of Special Council, the Commissioner of Customs, and to several senators and congressional leaders. In fact, 24 Customs employees signed a letter begging for an investigation into what we all felt was outright corruption, obstruction and violation of civil rights in Southern California. This letter was sent to U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., through certified mail.

Not only did Sen. Feinstein fail to initiate an investigation into our allegations, approximately two weeks after her office received this letter, she was seen on a Customs yacht with one of the very managers against whom we were making these allegations.

I saw Sen. Feinstein on national television yesterday and heard her make a number of accusatory comments about the Bush administration, giving the perception that the administration had dropped the ball on the 9-11 incident. I find it appalling to hear Sen. Feinstein make such hypocritical statements when she herself refused to act on the information we were trying to surface during the Clinton administration.

The retaliation has been tremendous and well documented. In fact, this is one case in which a former federal prosecutor, now a Superior Court judge, was witness to much of the corruption and terrorist threats that we identified. This case is well documented with many credible witnesses, yet, my brave co-workers and I suffer.

With the exception of The Patrick Henry Center (a non-profit organization in Fairfax, Va.) offering us much-needed protection and help, our story has been virtually swept under the rug. As a result of the extreme retaliation we received from U.S. Customs, so far the whistle-blowers involved in our specific case have become cannon fodder.

Why is this FBI whistle-blower receiving so much attention? Please understand, I heartily believe that she deserves and needs this attention and protection, but why have the rest of us have been virtually thrown to the wolves by the mainstream media and our elected officials? My life and career were destroyed by the U.S. Customs Service when I did the right thing and came forward with this critical information about our national security.

Can someone please explain to me why we have fallen victim to yet another political war for doing the right thing, but when Coleen Rowley becomes a whistle-blower she is celebrated by the mainstream media and "concerned” politicians.

Everything uncomfortable to the last administration was swept under the rug. There was so much corruption exposed already and the people didn't want to hear it which was fine with the media and congress. They were more interested in attacking the messengers, which they were zealous in that endeavor.

I don't particularly care whether Hillary and Bill go to jail, although that would be the cherry on top for me, I just want to know we've found out and taken care of the mess he left behind. I think we need to face the music for the choice the nation made in electing the two and their corrupt cohorts to office. I have hesitated to say anything that could reduce my concerns to a political bashing(because I love our system of checks, balances, bleeding hearts, cold, unfeeling conservatives, lefties, righties and inbetweenies), but what I heard about what was going on during Clinton's presidency scared the heart out of me. I'm not talking about his romantic indiscretions, I mean national security and our ability to survive an attack from within.

I've been predicting for years that it will TAKE years to find all of his messes and we may never fix them all. I stand by that.

I think it is time for us to help this sad and infuriating letter see some real daylight around our country. Sending it to Bill O'Reilly might be a start. He genuinely cares abour corruption and is not afraid to stand up to the plate. He might not only invite this resigned customs official onto his show, but he would surely invite Feinstein on to defend her sickening non-response.

No WONDER Hitlery and Feinstein are two of the pathetic senators screaming the loudest and pointing fingers....both of them are two of the WORST when it comes to prevention and protecting our nation. Feinstein within her own state-and her failures to respond to WH briefings she herself was privy too in summarized fashion and HITLERY because she and her husband sought to cripple and dismantle the CIA and FBI and betrayed our nation by accepting and entertaining foreigners who delivered campaign cash within our VERY WH. These two don't WANT anyone looking into their horrendous dark locked closets. THey think the mainstream press will serve as their closet guard dogs. We need to help force open that door!!!

Fact Remains Same: Mainstream Media is brainwashing America daily and they have an agenda and certain goals because they themselves are controlled and put into place by their owners.I have always thought the media should be impartial but this is certainly not the case in America.Mainstream Media controls what is put into print and the Mainstream Press, this is TV and Newspapers along with their Advertisers control what is said and printed and in most cases they push an item totally.I have been involved with the press over an issue for 8 years and they printed one side against me an individual and would not and still will not allow me to even defend myself.Your state newspapers today will not print the names of 16 Adjutant Generals who are accused of corruption or misconduct but if you as an average American Citizen does something and you do not have the power or influence to defend yourself they will print about you what they please and then go to court to prevent you from speaking.I can prove this and will do so in the coming days.

They KNOW the media will not touch this story with a ten foot pole. This lady (whistle blower) is lucky she hasn't wound up along side Chandra.

The trouble continues to be the mainstream media. They will not address issues of corruption, no matter how egregious if they are the fault of the democrats.

Until now we have had no voice. Fox News Channel has changed that which is why they are under constant attack.

CSPAN makes sure that only calls critical of the republicans get on the air, so there are relatively few places where our concerns can be heard.

Remember what they did to Linda Tripp.

They only approve of whistle blowers who accuse corporations or Republican administrations.

No bias in the media. Nah.
