Wasn't Lincoln the one who wanted to have mercy on all the confederates.

The Northeast was the most conservative part of the country before the rest of it forced the travesty known as women's suffrage down our throats.

Calling all idiots. Calling all idiots. Some great lies here get em while their cheap. Step right up. Don't miss out.

RIGHT YOU ARE! AMEN!

THANKFULLY, THIS TOO, LIKE GAS SHALL PASS.

Though it appears that the evidently angry, pride-wounded obsessive compulsive's spouting this nonsense would pass along to another task quicker if they could smell the gas they are expelling.

I've observed a fair amount of strange hobbies in my time but this is an extremely unique one. . . clearly something born, bread and incubated in the . . . what . . . uhhhh ingrown . . . . South?

I still contend that at this point, whatever % Lincoln had flaws is exceedingly irrelevant.

LINCOLN
WAS STILL
ENOUGH
HEAD AND SHOULDERS
ABOVE THE JOKERS
WRITING AND POSTING
SUCH JUNK
AS TO EASILY
LEAVE THEM IN THE
DUST
. . .
WHEN IT COMES TO
PERSONAL INTEGRITY
ELOQUENCE
DOWN-HOME REASONABLENESS
HORSE SENSE
AND
HUMAN WARMTH
&
PERCEPTIVITY
. . .
AS WELL AS
AUTHENTIC HUMAN
CARING.

He had to be a saint, if for no OTHER reason than to live with his wife as honorably as he did.

But I happen to believe he had a number of other honorable values authentically lived out. And no amount of revisionist hogwash by sore losers will convince me otherwise. If I get to Heaven and he's not there and God Himself points out vividly why, THEN I'll change my mind.

Wasn't Lincoln the one who wanted to have mercy on all the confederates.

Yes, he insisted that no trials for treason be held.

He said 'with malice towards none', and he acted on it.

And the Democratic party (aka the South) ran the Government in the 1850s

By the 50s, there were in effect parties. Northern Dems, Southern Dems, Northern Whigs, Southern Whigs. Sectionalism. It's funny. In all our FR debates, we talk about slavery as a cause of the war. And others talk about tarriffs. Or the evil mercantilists. Or strict constructionists. Or old Justice Taney. We never even get around to old Nat Turner or old John Brown. But we don't often talk about sectionalism itself. We tend to view sectionalism as a secondary condition. Maybe we should look at it as a cause. Stephen Douglas couldn't get enough Democrat votes to win the election because of sectionalism. The South dug its own political grave before digging its military grave.

The War of Northern Aggression will always be a point of contention so long as there remains some scant freedom to dissent with ever-growing power in government.

So long as there are people who believe in freedom and realize that it is only possible through limitations against government.

The War of Northern Aggression will be fought again, in America, as she slides down the slippery slope into tyranny.

I got tired of listening to the liberal shills touting the lessons of watergate 30 years later - - as if the world stopped then.

Now you folks are still fighting the civil war. It's over - - get over it - - it's history - - move on ! Man, I'm getting tired of this stuff.....

Methinks you doth protest too much. I've come to the conclusion that you sothron types rip into Lincoln so much because the crimes of your own Jefferson Davis would make Lincoln look like someones sainted grandfather. Just ask the shuckmeister. One book which painted a fairly balanced view of Davis and his criminal acts lasted about two weeks on shucks.net. Then shucky either read it or, more likely, someone else did the reading and told the shuckster that it wasn't the glowing view of Dixie that the title implied. That book is "Look Away: A History of the Confederate States of America" by William C. Davis. Why don't you ask him what happened to it?

"Next offering "Jesus was a Satanist."

Really! I'm getting sick of all of these creepy-ass necrophiles that keep (repeatedly) attacking one of America's greatest Presidents! Attacking the dead is like the ultimate form of cowardice. The dead aren't likely to defend themselves.

It's not over...we still live under the empire Lincoln set in motion and we still have to look at his ugly mug on pennies and $5 bills. If he hadn't been assassinated, he would not be the worshipped icon he is today...and perhaps he would have prevented some of the evils of reconstruction that help to keep the conflict alive today. Until the original LIMITED federal government is restored with states as the supreme governments, it's not over.

It's ironic that many folks accept Lincoln's sainthood on blind faith b/c that's what they were taught. I neither worship the man, nor hate him, but prefer to look at the historical record.

Surely, Holland's last comments in the article, "Never Again", are shared by all Americans today. Never again do we need to fight that war, never again do we need our leaders to break the Constitution that binds them, never again should be stand off brother against brother.

WOW! That was original! Who is WE? WE, that is, ALL Americans lost the government the Framers left us and received a central empire in its stead. I haven't found a better form of government existing in our world, but the one we lost must be the one we restore...when free and independent states are re-established as the supreme governments and the federal government resumes its LIMITED role as an agent of the states....THEN it will be over.
