That's why there's no Palestine

Every few days, Palestinians remind the world exactly why they can't yet be trusted with their own country. This week, we got two reminders. On Tuesday, a Palestinian blew up a Jerusalem bus, killing 19 civilians. The next day, another terrorist killed six more of the city's innocents. Just imagine what sort of atrocities these people could pull off from behind the borders of a sovereign Palestine. As William Safire wrote in The New York Times on Monday, a Palestinian state would give Yasser Arafat control of an airport. A plane taking off from the West Bank could hit a Tel Aviv skyscraper within minutes of entering Israeli air space.

Palestinian apologists assure us that this would never happen -- because Arab hatred would be extinguished as soon as the West Bank and Gaza were cleansed of Jews. But that's not true. It's not the Israeli presence in the disputed territories that bothers Palestinians, but the very existence of the Jewish state itself.

This was confirmed by a survey of 1,200 Palestinians conducted a month ago by the Jerusalem Media and Communication Centre. Like previous polls, this one found that more than two-thirds of Palestinians support suicide attacks against Jewish civilians. But more than half of respondents also said the goal of the current uprising is to conquer every inch of Israel -- not just the West Bank and Gaza. Remember this the next time you see a Palestinian talking head tell the world that it is the Israeli presence in the West Bank and Gaza that causes terrorism, not the other way around.

George W. Bush, the U.S. President, should remember that too. For several days now, there have been signals that the President will soon endorse the creation of an interim Palestinian state as a sop to Arab leaders. The latest bombings have caused him to delay his announcement. Asked about the President's new Middle East policy at a press conference on Wednesday, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said, "I think in the immediate aftermath of these attacks, it's obvious that [this] is not the right time."

Indeed it's not. And as we see it, it won't be the right time for a while. Terrorism is not a fringe phenomenon among Palestinians: It is a symptom of a mainstream belief among them that Israel can and should be destroyed by force of arms. So long as this view dominates, they should not have a sovereign platform from which to wage their murderous attacks.

Kill'em all.....The Palestinians that is.

No genocide, if you don't mind.

Bingo. What I don't understand is why the entire world can't see this?

Well we all know Uncle S.A.M. might be able to alleviate that situation.

The only sane solution is a fence running the perimeter of Israel: twenty feet thick and one hundred feet high....machine guns every one hundred yards and sharpshooters. Land mines and concertina wire five hundred yards out from the fence. Then let the "Palies" have their independent worthless country. It'll be just another authoritarian Islamic pesthole run by the usual lunatic dictator or religious nuts.

How about just for the ones that wont't leave? And as for 'they have no place to go', well that seems to be their own fault. They screwed themselves with their arab 'brothers' when they did the same to them.

No thank you, as someone above said about genocide. I saw the same setup, in every detail -- just divide the figures above by ten. It was what the "German Democratic Republic" called the "Schutzwall," or Protective Wall, keeping them from being "overrun" by them bad, bad mo-fo Allies in West Berlin. Fortunately, it no longer exists, nor does the GDR.

And now, the Israelis are seriously discussing the construction of a similar monstrosity, to keep out 500 million Arabs? I venture to suggest that they've not learned much in SOME areas from the Germans.

That is, aside from cashing the guilt-checks that the taxpayers of the Federal Republic of Germany have sent them for fifty years, helping them to establish their theocracy.

How many FReepers who applauded Reagan's proclamation, "Mister Gorbachev, tear down this wall" are now going to insist, "Mister Sharon, put up this wall"?

I, for one.

Have you forgotten that no matter what the East German government said about protecting themselves from the West, the Berlin wall was actually erected to keep their own citizens from escaping to freedom? Your comments would make more sense if the Palestinian scum were the ones proposing to build a wall.

I say Israel should build such a wall, including all of the West Bank and Golan Heights. Then they should drive every piece of Mohammedan filth within their borders into the deserts of Jordan or the Sinai, at gunpoint. Then they should raze every mosque in the land to bare dirt, starting with Al-Aqsa, and smear the sites with pig blood. And if any of their s**t-hole Arab neighbors so much as looks at them crosseyed, use the Samson option. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

I do. There's a big difference between building a wall to keep people in and a wall to keep a homicidal people out. The Israeli people have been more than patient. They tried for a peace where both sides could live and work together. The only solution will be to build a wall, not allow the entrance of ANY Palestinian for ANY reason, and try to get on with their lives.

It's the Palestinians who brought this about. Unfortuantely, as a result, they will never share in the prosperity they could have had if they had only been reasonable. It serves them right. Let them live in poverty and squalor and try to find someone else to blame for their wretched condition.

didn't clinton pose in much the same way???

i say, much like lincoln freeing the slaves in the states the union did not control, the israelis should recognize jordan as the home of the palestinians.... and start calling that palestine.

Since there is no Palistinian race or nationality, there could be no genocide.

However, I agree with you that they should not all be killed. They should have their government taken away and their public schools run by grown-ups for at least two generations so some people with sense can be put forth to run the new sovereign state.

Shalom.

I heard a great comment (source unknown) on the radio yesterday mourning.

If the Pali's laid down their arms, there'd be no more killing, If the Israeli's laid down their arms, there'd be no more Israel
