ITHACA -- They sang, they danced, they played cello and the bongos in a true alternative graduation ceremony. But the multi-talented seniors at the Alternative Community School also celebrated their commitment to justice, equity and compassion at commencement Monday night.

Maybe the image of a real ox would have been too patriarchical, masculine, strong and overbearing, so they settled with passing off a dairy cow.

By George, I think you've got it!

Thanks. I will send an abbreviated version to the Ithica Journal, which appeared equally excited to have written the story of the pathetic event spawned from the underbelly of this putrid thinking principal. Even the web site of the school had me wretching at the keyboard. And I thought only radical Islamic Muslims and Pali homicide bombers could only get to me that way. Come to think of it, there does not appear to be much of a difference in values between these wretched ones.

I guess its time for my medication.

Kill Mumia Abu Jamal.

(Just kidding: not much, though.)

2 questions
1 What does Mumia Abu-Jamal have to do with the above?
2 where's the gag alert? Some of us have weak stomachs.

Helpful FREEP safety tip:

"Ithaca" is greek for "barf alert." ;-)

The Alternative Community School in Ithaca graduated about thirty students. The same night at the Ithaca High School graduation (also reported in the Ithaca Journal), 347 seniors enthusiastically stood up to salute a classmate who will be attending West Point Military Academy in the fall. There are a lot more decent teenager--even in Ithaca--than the posting here at FreeRepublic would lead you to think.

Apparently, there may be some sort of "free Mumia" group operating in Ithaca. I found this on Google:
ITHACA Wednesday, November 29, 2000 7 - 9 PM: International Concerned Family & Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal - ITHACA Join us as we mobilize in Ithaca for Mumia! Come out to our first meeting. Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) 318 N. Albany Street, Ithaca DaFort Room for more info. icffmaj - ithaca po box 354 ithaca, NY 14850 607-327-0735 youth4mumia@hotmail.com

I wonder if this is part of the "graduation project"?

Amazingly, enough, there's a letter to the editor in today's paper from a Cornell professor decrying the decision to have Abu-Jamal speak at the graduation:

Reading today's story on the ACS graduation, it made me sick to see that at least some ACS students (and staff?) have been suckered into believing that Mumia Abu-Jamal is not a cold-blooded cop killer.

"According to defenders, he was framed because of on-air comments the Philadelphia establishment didn't like." Right. Just like the Rosenbergs and Alger Hiss were innocent. I urge these naive graduates (and thousands more around the world, as evidenced by all the "Free Mumia" Web sites) to read the facts. Mumia may not have been popular with Frank Rizzo & Co., but the evidence shows conclusively that he murdered a policeman. Some role model.

Let's see how many letters are now printed defending the cop killer.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

!!

The Rossiters have been prominent, respected Ithaca-area academics for generations. Nice to see their gene pool is still robust.

if they are getting tax dollars for this then a Fry Mumia campaign ought to be able to get fed financing.

Like "diversity" and "tolerance" this probably does not include the increasing bias against conservative or Christian views.

Like banning the pledge of allegience.
