My pick is the recent version of Pearl Harbor. It is dreadful on so many levels I can't go into here.

Pearl Harbor

I'll second that, although I heard it was so bad that I never actually saw it.

That was a comedy- not an attempt at a serious war movie.

pearle harbor was pretty bad. So was "the thin red line". I never cared for "apocalypse now" either. Even though I like john wayne, I'd have to say "green berets" wasn't very good either.

Howdy

OK you got me, Pearl Harbor has to be up there just because they cast an anti American hatemonger in the role depicting an authentic American hero, good call. (on your part!)

I was moved to reply because I recently saw "A Bridge Too Far" and was flabbergasted by a new perspective on the movie. I was explaining the history, the planning, the objectives, and the execution of Operation Market Garden to my gal as the movie went on, and I realized that not one shred of the how's, the why's, the motivation and training of and for this offensive, there was NOTHING in the movie but an incoherent lurch from violent and bloody scene to violent and bloody scene.

One would think watching that show that WWII was just an opportunity for people to act like animals

hollywood is disgusting.

BTW, Mars Attacks was a great movie.

I gotta vote for The Green Berets too, if for no other reason than the closing moments, when the sun sets in the east. (I am not making this up.)

Ben Afleck- enough said. But why the writers and producers of this movie thought they had to include a fictional love triangle that takes up 3/4's of the movie I will never know. Does this not show a disconnect with the people who run Hollywood and the rest of the Nation? 2500 or so Americans were killed on that day in a bloody sneak attack that launched us into a World War and is responsible for our present leadership in the World today- good or bad- and yet it was made into a third rate soap opera by hollywood! Disgusting. I walked out just before the "good stuff"- so disgusted. I latter watched it on video and was even more disturbed. I can only imagine what survivors of that battle thought watching this horse dung.

"Pearl Harbor" was pretty bad but at least it had interesting scenes of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Off the top of my head, I would say that "The Naked And The Dead" was the worst although I should be able to come up with a war flick worse than that.

"A Bridge To Far" a waste of good actors and a poorly writen and directed movie. Was a real let down and did not show the British failure enough as it realy was.

Right now, "Wake Island" is real high on my list. So phony! The construction workers cried like ti**y-babies and would not help the Marines fight off the Japs. What a bunch of yellow cowards. In the movie, however, wow, they joined hands and manned the machine gun nests along with the Marines. Great book written about it several years ago by a guy from Arkansas. Good read. I highly recommend it. parsy.

There was another Korean War film even worse than "Pork Chop Hill." I don't remember its name but it starred Mort Sahl and a Norwegian boxer. Really bad.

BTW, I just saw Black Hawk Down on DVD. I more than makes up for any bad war movie experiences. The fighting is portrayed accurately, and the blame is put squarely on "Washington" (i.e., Clinton) for disallowing heavier firepower (i.e, the AC-130 and tanks).

No. It had an Norwegian boxer actor in Korea. He beat Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight crown but his name and the name of the movie escapes me. It was really bad.

I didn't see Pearl Harbour, but that would qualify as the worst ever.

Reasons:

Ben Affleck
Commerical promotions I saw of the movie that had Japanese planes bombing Spruance class destroyers. Did this actually make the movie? Spruance class DDs did not start entering service in the US Navy until the mid 1970s.

The problem with "The Longest Day" is that it made the Normandy Invasion look like a fun adventure with all sorts of comical moments. Darryl Zanuck said he wanted it to be an anti-war movie but I didn't see that at all. It was the invasion of Normandy by an all-star cast saying and doing all kinds of funny things.

Completely stupid and ridiculous. Awful plot. Terrible models. Some of the worst dialogue ever. The low point of John Wayne's career.

Loads of fun to watch. :D

I just watched Gettysburg a couple of weeks ago and kept waiting for either Tom Berringer or Martin Sheen's beards to come unglued. I also laughed at the Reinactors trying to act. I was better as "Sailor #3" in my Jr. High production of South Pacific!!!

Oh - I agree. "The Longest Day" was just stupid. And I don't mean you need the blood and guts like in "Ryan" to portray the horror of war but this film was just stupid all around. Not the worst by far however. Some of the films made during WWII were even worse.
