Letter to the Editor Re:Pledge of Allegiance [Vanity]
Mr_Magoo

Posted on 06/27/2002 11:25:25 AM PDT by Mr_Magoo

The following was sent to the Chicago Sun-Times today. I did not sent it to the Chicago Tribune because of the FR lawsuit.

On June 26, 2002, a United States Federal Appeals Court in California declared the Pledge of Allegiance to be unconstitutional. The same day the U.S. Senate voted 99 - 0 to pass a resolution expressing its disagreement with the ruling.

How could something like this happen? The blame rests on the shoulders of none other than Senator Richard J. Durbin(D). Senator Durbin(D) is on the Judiciary Committee. You see, the Judge who wrote this ruling is Alfred T. Goodwin, a Judge pulled out of retirement to fill a vacant seat. A seat that Senator Durbin(D) refuses to fill by his petty political games. President Bush has nominated qualified Judges to fill these positions. Nominations that have been held hostage by Senator Durbin(D) for over 400 days.

Senator Durbin(D), the time has come to quit putting petty partisan politics ahead of Country. A vote on a resolution is not enough. The time is overdue to approve all the Judicial nominations.

As a Illinois voter and a Veteran, as your re-election nears, I vow I will not let the voters in Illinois forget your part in this travesty.

See Related Publications in the LAT/WP vs Free Republic Settlement Agreement. The Chicago Tribune is owned by the LAT. I refuse to have any part of a publication that is listed.

Great letter! Great challenge!

We have to stop this willful destruction of our Republic and all it stands for now. It is up to us to do it.

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."- John Adams, Oct. 11, 1798 Address

Thanks Jeff,

I signed your petition last night. (one of the first 50)

My goal by posting this is to entice FReepers to hold the members of the Judiciary Committee responsible for this ruling. With enough publicity, they will be forced to approve all of President Bush's nominations.

I signed your petition, and want to give it a bump!

Also, there's a "poll" on CourtTV requiring some "S-E-R-I-O-U-S" FREEPING"!

Thanks so much.

I keep hearing this on FR about Goodwin being pulled out of retirement to fill the vacant seat. However, I've not seen it verified in any way. What is your source for this information? If it is true, then we need to run with it and get Bush's nominees unlocked.

Judges are listed as Active or Senior (retired).

I've seen the distinction between Active and Senior here and on the 9th Circuit Court's website. However, I've seen no official explanation of difference, no confirmation that this judge was pulled out of retirement to server, and no verification that it was because of a vacancy caused by the Dems sitting on Bush's nominees.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is probably true. However, without sufficient verification I do not want to go around shouting this when it may turn out NOT to be true. If it is true, we truly have Daschle, Leahy, and the other obstructionist Democrats nailed on this issue.

"Mr._Magoo"!

No need; there's a link to the "poll" on CourtTV, at Post #33 on the "How is the 'under God' unconstitutional?" thread.

Thank you.
